Why aren't integral scope rails more popular?

By "integral scope rail' I mean something like Zeiss ZM/VM: This mounting system is fairly popular in Europe (Swarovski, Zeiss, Leica and a few others make compatible scopes ) but it is pretty much unheard of in...

    Question for Near Alphamount users

I recently bought an Alphamount after reading glowing reviews on this forum and elsewhere. Overall, it seems like a very stout and well-designed mount. A couple of things surprised me however. Right away, I could see that there was a lot of back and forth movement in the picatinny slot. I then...

Remington to shut down plants for 2 months

Remington was acquired by the Freedom Group in 2012. The decline started at least ten years prior.

Which Muzzle Brake would you prefer??

I would second this suggestion. Not just because Heathen is made in Canada but because it's the best muzzle brake I have used. It's compact, you can index it by hand without any tools, does a great job of reducing recoil, does not direct blast back at the shooter and it's pretty quiet for a brake.

Noticed a nick in my Remington 700 5R rifling

Zero chance of that nick being caused by a brass jag. Brass is not going to damage hardened steel. Remington quality being what it is, this has to be a factory defect, though judging by the groups in your photo, you don’t have to worry about accuracy.

    Iran Invasion time?

LOL. I have some bad news for your. 70-80% of the world is dirt poor. Ever been to rural China or India? How about Bangladesh or Papua New Guinea? Democratic Republic of Congo? The U.S. never invaded any of those place for installed "right wing military dictatorships" there. The missing men in...

    Iran Invasion time?

Nonsense. You have hundreds of thousands (if not more) fleeing Central America purely for economic reasons. People leave poor countries and migrate to rich countries. It's been like since the days of Rome.

    Iran Invasion time?

No need to fight in the mountains and occupy the entire country. Go in, blow up the nuclear reactors, kill the leadership in Teheran if you can, and then leave. Let the Iranians sort things out between themselves afterwards.

    Iran Invasion time?

Regardless of how you feel about Israel, Iran developing nukes is bad news for just about everyone. Iran could use a good ass kicking, which would have the added benefit of motivating North Korea and certain other countries to play ball. The 2003 invasion of Iraq was not a mistake. Staying...

Rifle Scopes Do you lube your 1913 rail?

I'm not saying it's supposed to act as filler or increase friction - that's the opposite of what I'm saying. Lubrication decreases friction, which is the opposite of what you want when the goal is to have the part stay in place and not move.

Rifle Scopes Do you lube your 1913 rail?

Exactly. it's like trying to fix potholes on the road by filling them with water.

Rifle Scopes Do you lube your 1913 rail?

I can see oiling a steel rail for corrosion resistance. But what other practical purpose could it possibly serve? From the physics standpoint, how does adding lubricant to a mating surface make a metal part LESS likely to slide? Think of a semi-auto pistol: you lubricate the slide/frame mating...

    Spuhr mounts prone to cracking?

Those are the two that I could find with a quick search. I don’t know if there are others. That’s why I’m asking the question.

    Spuhr mounts prone to cracking?

I hope I'm not opening a can of worms, but I've noticed a couple of members reporting that their mounts cracked in exactly the same spot: along the relief cuts for the ring mounting screws. Example 1 Example 2 (post #15) Are those isolated incidents or is this a known issue with Spuhr? The...

Rifle Scopes Is my Nightforce tube out of spec?

I have a Nightforce SHV 5-20 (same 30 mm tube as the full size NXS). The scope body is a two-piece design: the objective bell/front tube screws into the turret housing/rear tube. The problem is that the front tube appears to be thicker than the rear tube. This can be confirmed by taking half of...

Insite Arms new Hybrid, multi cal muzzle brake!!!

Received one of these new Heathen brakes a few days ago. Haven't had a chance to shoot with it yet. First impressions: the product is very well machined and the black nitride finish is nice. The insert is silver, which I kind of like. However, there was no tool for removing the insert included...
