Looks like thin neck walls on the brass. Grendel brass run through the exact same Hornady die provides adequate tension. Sample size of two or three, so not necessarily statistically significant yet, but enough to check me up on getting a barrel until it’s worked out or another brass supplier...
I’m not familiar enough with n133 to offer an option on it specifically. If I was in your position the ARcomp would be a good place to start as it so versatile in a lot of the other cartridges I shoot. Anything “over bought” can go to work in something else.
Seems like Black Hills has been dropping more 77gr smk & tmk in the last 5 months than they did in the previous 5 years. Would look to that for a hotter 77gr.
I have settled on Forster BR dies with the micrometer seater. Their seater have given me the best length and runout consistency. On sizing, I run it with the expander out and use a dedicated mandrel die to set the neck tension. I would rather do this to make sure the inside of the neck is...
As stated previously, usually happens on the 2nd for me but it’s not a hard rule. He’ll know it’s fully formed when if fails the wheeler drop test he’s already added to his skill set and process. That’s the method I use as well as it’s a definitive indicator, no need to designate an arbitrary...
His first firing is not the reference point as his shoulder did not fireform to the chamber fully. He has no idea how far his unsized brass shoulder is short from the chamber headspace at this point. Could still be .001 off or .010 off.
It’s the first firing, he doesn’t even know where his headspace is yet. To your point about brass lasting, continually bumping the shoulder excessively to his barrels headspace will probably kill it faster than anything. I bump to .002 under actual barrel headspace. With quality brass, rarely...
Stoked to get some feedback on how the proof factory prefits do, especially on the shorter lengths they are offering. My six yo wants to shoot his first deer next season. I was ready to set him up in .223 around the 77gr tmk when I saw that proof is going to go the arc in prefits. Thought it...
