    Somewhere in the US
As of right now they have 14 republicans willing to sign on to this bill that is being fast tracked through the senate. It’s 80 pages long. 6 of them have said they will agree to it unless there is public pushback. I didn’t catch the names but if you live in an area where these gents are, I suggest you contact them and tell them your disdain. Otherwise, this will likely pass.

There's plenty more that would sign on. It's a prearranged deal. These 14 are pretty secure for their next election. The republicant party will flood their next campaign with the money needed to get them elected. The media/PRAVDA will also help them.
    Anyone want to wager?
    The ones who have agreed:

Still believe in the illusion they call a 2 party system?

This bill will be step 1. Remember...everything you have said over the phone, every text/email you ever sent, every FB post you ever made, every forum comment ever posted has been recorded for a long time. You've been found guilty several ago. Your dog will be the first casualty when they execute the no knock warrant to remove ytour firearms.

Knowing the Demo-socialists, not as bad as I expected. It could have been a lot worse. Now the politicians can feel all warm and fuzzy. Doesn't mean it'll pass. Now they can go back to their constituents and say: "we tried, we cried, but (sigh)... it's those evil Republicans."

What I want to know - besides watering down the proposals why didn't they also counter-propose Universal Concealed Carry Permits?

Can there just be a blanket statement sent to everyone in dc saying something like

Every one of you psychopaths is a disgrace. You should all be embarrassed but I know you’re not. After all, you need at least a soul and a conscience to feel embarrassment.

The ones in these states need to all call and write and tell them not to do anything. Guns have never been more difficult to obtain than they are now at any point in history, and it hasn't mattered. I can absolutely assure you that taking the 5 minutes to do it DOES MATTER AND DOES HAVE AN EFFECT! I am in a position to know very well the kind if effect it has. We are all aware of the politicians lack of concern for their constituents.... Be that as it may, using that as an excuse to DO NOTHING is a cop out! Don't sit here and claim to be a 2A hardass and refuse to write and call your senators, take the freaking 5 minutes and make your position known to them!

Find a friend that has a 3d printer and when they come knocking, hand them just the receiver in 2 or 3 pieces. Or just don’t comply, that’s the best answer

So, in response to my lengthy correspondence to Cornyn, this is what I received:

Thank you for contacting me regarding federal firearms policy. I appreciate your comments on this important matter.

On May 24, 2022, a gunman maliciously took the lives of 21 innocent people, including 19 children at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones. As you know, this is an incredibly difficult time for the Uvalde community, Texas, and our Nation. We are committed to coordinating with federal, state, and local officials to assist the Uvalde community as they navigate the aftermath of this tragedy.

Students and teachers deserve to feel safe inside of their schools, and parents deserve peace of mind when they send their children to school. To that end, my Senate colleagues and I have engaged in bipartisan discussions to draft mental health and school safety legislation to identify and prevent violence in our communities. It is imperative for Congress to improve the availability and accessibility of mental health services across the country, particularly within our schools, to address the root causes of mass violence. In addition, school safety measures must be bolstered to ensure schools have effective violence prevention mechanisms in place.

To be clear, we are not talking about restricting or limiting the rights of current law-abiding gun owners. We need targeted reforms to ensure existing laws keep guns out of the hands of criminals and those who have been adjudicated as mentally ill. The Constitution guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, and I strongly oppose any effort to infringe on that right.

As this legislation begins to take shape, my goal is to reach an agreement that can earn broad bipartisan support. In the wake of the 2017 Sutherland Springs shooting, we learned that the existing background check system-the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)-did not identify that the shooter was prohibited from purchasing and possessing a firearm under federal law. As a result, I reached across the aisle and worked with my Republican colleagues to pass the bipartisan Fix NICS Act (S. 2135; 115th Congress), which was signed into law as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 (P. L. 115-141). This law improves the uploading of records from local, state, and federal agencies to better identify those who are already disqualified under current law from purchasing a firearm. States and federal agencies have uploaded more than eleven million records since the bill's passage. I'm convinced that this legislation has saved lives.

Like you, I am outraged by mass shootings and the violence inflicted upon our communities. As your Senator, I am committed to focusing on the root causes of mass violence, improving the enforcement of current law, and addressing improvements to mental health care in America. I will continue to push for effective solutions that protect communities while preserving the protections and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent Texas in the United States Senate. I recognize we may have differing opinions on this important matter, but I hope you will continue to share your views with me. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

You could have emailed him “fuck you” or “good job” and got this auto response. Nobody read what you sent.

Someone read it because I got the "(we) have differing opinions on this important matter" vs the "'I agree we need tougher laws". I sent a letter to Cruz and didn't get a response (yet), but he wasn't trying to subvert the Constitution this time. The point of posting was to show his firm position.
Yes we do have differing opinions Cornyn, I believe in the Constitution. Shall not be infringed.

The issue is that there is no '' common sense" anything with democrats. There is no infringement that is acceptable because we know it's just another step and will also be misused and is a VIOLATION of the 2nd Amendment.

I've not seen where there has been any new fire arms regs or laws ect proposed or accepted by any pubs, but they will undoubtedly get in the position of "give a little to get what we want" . Be that red flag laws (which are a violation of several amendments) or something else. Or best case, they don't get anything agreed to in final form, and they get shit on right before an election with the media's help. This is a fools errand to attempt to do anything with democrats.

I'd like to see some things done to our schools to protect them and I'd like to see some things done with mental health too, but this idea that anything and I do mean ANYTHING good will come from working with democrats is just a damn fallacy.

However, I think it's clear that they are getting the messages being sent. We need to send a lot more messages.

Only the Republicans could mess up a slam dunk mid term election cycle
That’s the absolute truth. Oh well the Republicans won’t save us any way they will do the whole reenactment of the Obama/Trump years.

    Republicans Said:
You can’t expect us to get anything done we only have the house (2010).

You can’t expect us to get anything done we only have the senate & the house (2014).

You can’t expect us to be too aggressive now that we have the presidency we don’t want to jeopardize the midterms (2016).

You can’t expect us to get anything done we lost the house (2018).

You can’t expect us to get anything done we lost the senate (2020).

Oh snap we did actually get something done even though we don’t have the house, the senate, or the presidency we delivered on gun control (2022). We got this done holding no power you ungrateful mob.

We have 5 more years of this ass. Shit.
Why do you think they put him in the lead on this? He’s untouchable and in 5 years everyone will have forgotten.

He got a nice committee assignments or a plum junket or some big base opening for his state. In return for selling out his voters and the US Constitution.

    Who is surprised?

He's been in the Senate since 2002. He's not up for re-election until 2026. He's 70 now. He's probabaly good for another 20 years in the Senate.

He'll be the new media darling.

    The ones who have agreed:

Senator Bill Cassidy, I’m sorry to say, is my Senator. I voted for him. During his campaign, he praised Trump, and all of Trump’s policies and successes. He rode Trump’s success and coattails for an easy reelection. Two months later, and just days after being sworn in, he stabbed Trump in the back. The people in Louisiana, will not forget. This is Cassidy’s last term, and he knows it. That’s why he’s gone all lefty on everybody and everything. I keep hoping he falls off a balcony while walking through the Capitol Building.

I just wrote my senator, first time i've ever done it. I never have really believed that it would make any difference, but I wrote my thoughts, in a friendly courteous way, and sent it on it's way. Just keep my fingers crossed from here.

    Branden
If I wrote Cornyn I'd keep it short and to the point, something he could read at a glance as he tossed it in the shredder stack along with all the other unread letters.

It'd be FUCK YOU, YOU RINO COCKSUCKER.

If the ATF is now looking for private sales that may "make a profit" does that mean the PX will no longer have firearms sales?

The ATF has always been looking for private sales that make a profit. This is the way they get table top gun dealers and people who are buying and selling privately. They don’t use the ATF to say that you’ve bought or sold X number or too many.

Instead they bring in the IRS and look for any profits you might’ve made and whether you paid taxes on those profits. They get you on tax evasion because there is no federally mandated number of guns that you can buy and sell before becoming (aka being classified as ornaccused of being) a dealer. And the ATF doesn’t want to create a number. High or low.

The IRS on the other hand can totally ruin your life for any amount of unreported income.

    Cheers

Got a bit wordy once I started, but here’s my first draft to Cornyn’s office. I’ll pare it down a good bit before I hit send.

    Senator Cornyn,

I send this with regrets; you once, ostensibly, stood for your constituents and our country. However, your recent actions opened my eyes to the fact that yet another person who swore an oath to protect The Constitution has succumbed to the sweet promise of the poison apple that is DC.

    Shame on you Senator.

You’re wise enough to see the precipice upon which our nation rests, and smart enough to understand the outcome of your decisions. Yet you proceeded with abandon…abandoning your principles and those of your constituents along the way.

I once campaigned for you, but will now actively engage in a recall effort to remove you from office. It brings me no pleasure to take these actions, but you no longer represent us, your constituents.

I hope you come to your senses and remember that your legacy, and that of our children far outweigh any short-term gains you were promised by the swamp.

    Good day sir,

Yeah, I got the same form letter.

I got a similar letter but more subtlety trying to convince me that he really is a staunch supporter of 2nd rights. This is after I told him that he will never get my vote again and I will do everything I can to support a real conservative opponent.
    What a fucking RINO snake.

    Here’s my email to Cornyn.

    Senator Cornyn,

I’m writing this letter to implore you to vote against as a “No” vote on the Safer Communities Act of 2022. This piece of legislation if it were to be voted into law is not only an assault on the 2nd amendment but is a violation of the 4th, 5th, and 14th amendment of the US Constitution.

With that being said, if you are a “Yes” vote on this piece of legislation then you will have shown that you no longer represent the citizens of Texas as a republican but rather as a democrat.

If you are going to operate and vote as a democrat we are no longer in need of your services. The truth is, we both know that it is virtually impossible to primary a sitting US congressman and especially a US senator. You are also aware that US Senators are not subject to term limits.

If you vote “Yes” on the Safer Communities Act of 2022 then the most efficient way to remove you from office is for ALL Texans to vote for the democrat challenger against you in 2026. I know the republican party has taken it to the bank that republican voters will always vote for the lesser of two evils which in this case would be you however those days are over Mr. Cornyn.

If you vote as a democrat then you are a democrat and should be voted out and that is what is going to happen if you vote Yes on this piece of legislation. I will work along side the Texas GOP and any other grass roots organization to vote against you in 2026 no matter who the democrat representative is including Beto O’rourke if that’s what it takes to get you voted out of office.

If you vote Yes on this bill then I suggest you prepare your resume for lobbying jobs after 2026 because you sir will be voted out of office not by a blue wave but rather a red wave.

In closing, it was telling that at the recent Texas GOP convention in Houston, Texas you called your own republican constituents from Texas a “Mob”.

    Respectfully,

    Texan for Life

Heard Ernst on the radio this morning claiming it doesn't infringe on any "law abiding" person's 2A. Bullshit. It won't end, we will complain amongst ourselves while our ruling class disarm us.
