Nucleus Build Pictures

since this thread is back near top- any of you running a Vortex Razor 4.5-27 on the nuke? what height rings (MDT ACC chassis if it matters) are you using? was assuming around 1" height but figured I'd see if I could verify so I can get some rings on the way before the scope gets here..
I will find out Thursday but I did have my Vortex Razor in a MPA one piece mount 1.125 and had good clearance on my 6.5 with 20 MOA rail.

I had my Nucleus chambered in 6BR and I used both the MDT 6BR mags and ARC mags with no spacer kit installed. Both magazines worked quite well for me, though I usually preferred the standard ARC mags since they were more compact.

I've found that ARC mags work great to feed 6BR without a spacer kit, but they usually require tweaking unless you are using an ARC action. The ARC actions have always worked well with the ARC mags without any adjustment for me.
Thank you, I will buy both an ARC mag & MDT BR mag to try them both.

I'm running ARC M10 Low rings (24mm or .94") on my Nucleus with the Razor, but I'm also using a savage small shank barrel not a shouldered barrel, so the barrel diameter is a little smaller. I'd probably buy mediums today (32mm or 1.1") to make sure I can clear a full bull barrel with scope caps and such.

Here is my new build. Gen 2 ARC Nucleus action, Bix & Andy Tac sport pro trigger, McMillan A5 all decked out, 27" Criterion 6mmBR 1-8 tw, Vortex Razor gen2 4.5-27x56, Area419 arca barricade rail, KMW bottom metal.

what is actually stopping the bolt? I love the original bolt stop that was simply a bar across the 12 oclock lug - cant imagine any bolt stop being more robust.
The new design looks pretty bomb proof as well since the pin doesn’t see any real force.
I like the original design as well.
Bolt is in there and would be almost impossible to release accidentally or fail.

So I have a nucleus question- this is my first "custom" action and I just got the action wrench. I've got two barrels, a short 308 and a longer 6.5CM. I have the 308 currently mounted up, but how often do you guys change barrels? not necessarily when it's shot out, but do you swap out barrels for different uses?

my concern is, is there anything that I might wear out/harm if I swap out the barrel every so often (standard shouldered prefits, one LRI and one PVA)?

My primary AR15 is an LMT MRP and I swap between 5.56 and 6.8spc every so often and with that system I can't see anything 'wearing out'. I was curious if I should stick to one caliber or the other with the Nucleus or if you guys swap out barrels for usage?

I take my barrel off to clean it, because I can. Put lube where you should put lube. Always use a calibrated torque wrench and the same torque and even your zero won’t change.

thanks for the quick replies. I would like to develop a load for the 308 and then the 6.5 but would like to spend some time shooting the 308 to get used to it and then I'll swap over to the 6.5 and stretch it's legs out. I assumed it was good to go, but since I'm new to the precision bolt side, I didn't want to make any mistakes. :)

You probably wouldn’t be disappointed with any of the custom actions.
Let the features you want guide your decision

I have the original design and although its robust it is a pain in the ass to manipulate and you have to make sure you turn the bolt stop on.

Today as I was uncasing my nuke another shooter asks me "what is that", its something I put together I said as I rip the bolt out of the rifle
cuz I forgot to lock the sucker LOL.

But the rifle shoots great and for some reason has bear radar. Crazy but today as I am looking at my impacts on steel a black bear walks through my FOV. This would be the third time that has happened with the nuke.

Finally got things here and working on getting the scope mounted. Right in the middle of a house move so it will be a few weeks before I get to try her out. I decided to take my time and get the parts I wanted (as I could afford them!) so it’s been a long project for me.

Bought a Nucleus gen 1 action with LRI fluted shorty 308 barrel and brake from the PX. I have a PVA 26” cut rifled 6.5Cm barrel that will be the main barrel. MDT ACC folder chassis. Timney two stage trigger (would like to try a Bix n Andy 2 stage). MDT Ckye-pod. ARC rings. Vortex Razor gen II 4.5-27. All in all it should be a fun shooter. Can’t wait.

looks a bit funny with the short barrel (~18.5” w the brake) but figured it’ll be fun to break me/it in with the 308 before I try the 6.5 for longer range (600 is about as long as I can get without driving a few hours).

I have never seen a Nuke fluted. Fluting would have no practical effect except weight reduction. The bolt already has clearance for dirt and grime that most others don't.

Fluting might actually make it worse. Let us know if you try it.

Long time lurker, thought I would share my Nuc build. I wanted something more hunting oriented so I built this on a Grayboe Terrain stock with a Criterion Light Varmint barrel in 6.5CM. No luck during deer season but it has been very accurate and a lot of fun on steel. View attachment 6978160
What barrel nut is that? The cerakote job looks great!

It's more of a bronze/copper in person...at least I think it was (it started a little trip today to go meet its new home). Honestly, I didn't really have a response to it one way or the other...the idiot in me was happy it was so obvious to see/find. ;-)

Yea
The one I saw was kinda golden bronzeish, pretty nice and kinda industrial looking.

figured I'd post it here- I've got an early Nuke action, with a 308 LRI barrel. bought the BA on the hide. I have the action wrench and a 6.5cm PVA barrel I'd like to instal in the near future. anyone have a recommendation for a good barrel vice? something like a Viper or similar price range ideally...
