Can anyone recommend/suggest an open or fiber sight setup for a 4H .22 rifle? My kiddo is wanting to try 4H shooting this year, and a suppressed rifle with a vortex isn't going to fall within the rules of any category...

I was thinking starting in the open sight class would be the best for her skills development, and she is excited, but I need to get a suitable sight installed.

Thanks in advance

Taking a step back here - I realized we have 4 classes in our 4H program - I have a question into the parent that runs things....

Which division?

Hunter (open or fiber sights)
Hunter optics - (4x)
Sporter (peep/aperature sights, no jackets)
4 Position (full shooting clothing, peep sights, etc)

I'm inclined to find another lighter .22 for her and suggest she start with the 'hunter class' rather than evolve quickly into a full race gun arms race with smallbore clothing. I want her to develop the basics and have fun.

I would say Sporter class.

Peep/aperature sights, not stuff.

But I am biased, that is how I started with NRA youth program MANY years ago. Then in college did the whole jacket/glove/etc in collegiate small bore. Easy transition.

If you are involved with 4-H Savage will sell you direct (via FFL of course) a FVT for $250ish. Replace the stock if needed, but the sights are pretty decent.

CMP will do the same deal for about the same price for a Junior CMP affiliated person.
