So since nobody has started a 2018 hunting success thread figured maybe I'd get it started. No success for me - yet My first hunt starts next weekend for mule deer, then off to Wyoming to chase antelope for a week. So will be posting soon - fingers crossed I have something to post-grin.

So anyway, I know several states already have open hunting seasons so anybody that has any pics to post post them up for the rest of us still waiting.

Filled 4 tags so far. WT doe with Blaser 300N @ 285 yards. WT doe crossbow 61 yards. 2 doe antelope 125 yards/300 yards.

No antelope buck draw again this year...the vast majority of hunters with buck tags are from out of state.

Have gen deer tag, looking for another good buck this year, gen elk and 2 cow elk tags to fill. Also have black bear/wolf/mt lion in case I run into one... saw a great Tom last year @ 400 yards without a tag in my pocket.

I have a buck & 2 does tags for unit 113 which is where I usually hunt and grabbed another doe tag for unit 20 in the leftover draw. Not a lot of public in 20 but know a couple spots I should be able to fill a doe tag!!

Thats a fine buck, I've been told that area you guys hunted is about as tough as it gets to even see deer so congrats to you!

Thanks! Yes it is steep and nasty but over the years we’ve taken lots of great bucks from our little family spot there.

Thank you! Yes sir can’t wait for my next 2 little ones to do the same ! Last year I took a small buck but it was easy for them to be a part of it and it was awesome to have my 4 and 8 year olds with me and to help with “the pack”

Here is one from our opening day which was Saturday. Not mine but a friend I fish with. He is an older fellow and we put him in the choice spot to catch the deer coming off an alfalfa field. He got this guy about 45 minutes after daylight, he was kind enough to let me drag it out for him Nice big healthy deer for being only a forky. Will be back up hunting this weekend trying to find the big 3x3 that was with this one.

That’s awesome good luck finding the big 3! It’s always great to hear when someone packs out an animal for an older fellow, my dad and I did the same for 2 good old boys in Montana elk hunting a couple years ago . I hope one day I’ll be old enough to have some generous young lad to offer to pack out my animals... it’s nice to see the hunting community helping each other out.

I have no idea what a class 2 coyote is, but here Down Under this would have more dingo in it than coyote. Guaranteed to have grown up eating kangaroos.

Class 2 coyote is a collarless dog. I started hunting for deer when I was 18 in Alabama with a buddy, he shot a deer about 400 yards from the tree stand I was in. When i went to link up with him to drag his deer out he asked what I had seen. All I saw was a yellow dog with no collar. He said "aw, man, thats a class 2 coyote, we shoot those down here."

Guided the owner of Magneto Speed and his friend to these 2 Boone and Crocket antelope a couple weeks ago, 88 6/8 and 83 3/8 green.
I still have a deer and elk tag to fill for myself and guide one more deer hunt.

Well I struck out on elk during bow season, but managed to whack this guy today. He's not the biggest, but two days was about all I wanted to spend hunting 'lopes, today was the second, and he was well located for an easy extraction.

A high shoulder 127gr LRX @ just over 200yds from my 6.5 Creedmoor put him dick-to-dirt in a hurry. I was impressed with the damage, penetration was complete of course, I may have to try one on a cow elk later this year.

Hopefully I'll be back in a couple weeks with pics of a bull elk and a big muley buck.

My son and grandson flew out to join me on the second week of Wyoming general Elk season in the National Forest near my home.

I passed on a few small bulls prior to their arrival, as I would rather take a cow with them than a small bull on my own.

I did a ton of glasssing and saw sheep, deer, antelope and elk with my BTX 95mm that I would not have otherwise located.

I am extremely grateful for having them with me to experience this great country and the wildlife that inhabits this vast landscape.

The area I elk hunt has a 2 point only restriction on deer. I couldn't pass him up, 489 yards with my 7 RM , 180 Hybrid flattened him. Now back to elk hunting!

I kill ugly coyotes as well, this is one of the biggest I’ve shot. Look at the size of his head compared to my call.

So thanks to the OP, I’m the proud owner of a Jon Beanland built 7mm08. I went to Wyoming last week to hunt with Bear Track Outfitters in Buffalo. Four of us hunted, one had mule deer/antelope combo and two buddies and I had mule deer/cow elk combo. All four of us filled our tags in some nasty snow, sleet and rain until it turned nicer on Thursday and Friday. I took the 7mm08, on top is a S&B Klassik 3-12x42 with elevation dial in talley lightweights, using a Montana sling from Pat Sinclair. I used factory Nosler 140 grain E-tip ammo (it was on sale at Shooters Pro Shop for $22.50/box and it shoots MOA in my rifle).

The 7mm08 is one of my favourite cartridges. I used one for years both hunting and competition, and kinda miss it.

What are the specs on the model 99? I have a carbine model in 30/30 from 1927. Great rifles.
