I am always armed while at home, in the yard, or just making dinner, watching the Tube, playing with the dog etc. My Brother thinks I'm paranoid - my Wife loves it.

I had a coworker a couple years ago who has a Niece who was attacked in her own home at 7:30am. Someone knocked on the door and her Boyfriend answered the door to take a bullet thru the brain killing him instantly. The lone attacker then chased her thru the house shooting her repeatedly until one bullet penetrated to her spine and hut her down. The attacker left her for dead, stole nothing, and fled the house and was seen by running by neighbors who heard the shots.

The called the Police and she survived but is partially crippled due to the bullet that lodged in her spine and 4 other bullets. She did not know the man and is certain her Boyfriend had no idea who he was either. Police have never arrested anyone.

Since hearing this I carry concealed even when I'm home.

Anyone else carry concealed at home just to cover all the bases?

Generally I'll have a gun on me if I'm around the house, with some exceptions.
In the exception cases I have one pretty close that I can grab if the big dogs start to growl or bark.

You would be amazed at how long it seems to take to grab a gun that is not on you when you think it's on like Donkey Kong.

I once heard what I thought was the door being kicked in (turned out to be a tower of water bottles tumbling into a door).
My shotgun was in a sheath under the bed about 3 feet from my desk. It seemed like it was an eternity of time to get out of my chair, pull the shotgun out, rack it and turn around to face the door.

I would however say one of the biggest threats from actual news and incidents is some family member is being forced to ring the doorbell / open the door and someone is behind them with a gun. In that situation, if you can't be firing within a second or two, you may be the next dead family on the news.

I carry when I can. Sometimes you can’t. I make sure I have a loaded gun in arm’s reach every second I’m in the house.

If any of you reading this take anything from what I post, read this as the New Times.

You’re never, NEVER safe, ANYWHERE. Not at home, not sleeping, not in your car, not at the grocery store, and especially not anywhere near a population center. Humans do human shit, you can’t predict them, and you also can’t stop them.

Anyone that thinks they’re hard or bad enough to take all comers, at any time, is a fool. There’s always someone meaner, harder, and more willing and ready to do violence. Never answer the door without a gun, and be ready to use it.

Of course this is just my opinion based on my life’s experiences. Folks can do as they please, it’s a free country right?

    King,
    That is amazing!
Glad you or your family was not hurt.
Did police say if it was a one off or does it happen in that area?

Damn this makes me rethink it.

There are currently two pistols and an AR I can get to. I'm about in the middle of the house and there in opposite directions.

I do have a fully fenced 5' tall around 5 acres, gated , security cameras with motion detection, and a ill tempered short fused blue heeler in my shadow all the time.

Closest sketchy thing we have had out here has been the " insurance salesman" or traveling meat salesmen. I think the insurance salesmen were casing places. My wife told them to f-off through the door with the Benelli pointed halfway up the door. The gate has eliminated random visitors.

I lived in some bad neighborhoods - and that was a VERY bad neighborhood.
That was just a few years ago wasn't it? I thought I remember a thread of yours about stuff getting constantly broken into.

THAT was the next neighborhood. Colorado Springs is going to shit hardcore.

This thing with the machete was 15 years ago

Today I drove through my old neighborhood. I thought they were having a shit ton of yard sales. Nope - it was signs everywhere saying “$10,000 reward for information regarding robbery spree in neighborhood.”

To put it in perspective - every 5 years every adult you know in Colorado’s springs gets robbed, based on crime statistics.

I have lived in a bunch of places here:

...First house I look at in CO? Has a giant swastika painted on the garage door. It was a no go...

    1. Machete joint. Also, had severe crime issues due to illegal immigrants getting off semis here to head up and down i70. At the “carniceria”. Well, all the cartel dickheads were waiting there to kill anyone who got off the trucks after running with their drugs and money.

    2. So I moved to the nice neighborhood. It was the place the cartel guys lived with their families. It was definitely a no-crime zone though. Turns out Edwardo over there with the face tats doesn’t take kindly to folks shooting HIS wife and kids.

    3. Next place was in Castle Rock. It was fine - good rent but my landlord said “raising the rent from $1500 to $3500 a month the second your lease is up....”

    4. Castle rock II - the people that moved into this house after I left I guess built a giant bomb. That was meant for the school. And the bomb squad had to blow it up on the golf course out back and condem tbe house due to chemicals.

    5. Highlands ranch - right next to the STEM school my kid would have gone to if we hadn’t moved. The one with the mass shooting.

    6. Security, CO - the name of the place was the fucking warning. 1 all my shit shot up drive through and like 5 robberies. Lovely place. The one with the $10,000 reward signs

    7. And finally, Airstream trailer where I live wherever the fuck I want. It has the crime rate of wherever the fuck I want.
Well I'm thinking you move into my neighborhood I'm fucking moving lol!

    Yup

If it's not on me, it's next to me. But, yeah... never EVER answer / open the door to someone you're not expecting or don't know. Not even armed, will I open the door to a stranger or unexpected visitor.

I made a holster that works with basketball shorts or sweatpants. So short answer yes i carry at home. The likelyhood of needing it at home may be lower but with a family the stakes are higher.

i don't carry in the house but once i step out that door, its on me.
i don't carry at home because of my kids, i feel like should have that sense of safety at home, that nothing can go wrong. i do have a stash all around the house though.

Ah, religious carry. Like a Shaolin Buddhist?

Such great fantasy gunfight scenes in that movie.
It's like he watched The Matrix and then said... hold my scotch while I show you how it's really done...

All day every day , I live in a northern Komifornia neighborhood where every criminal from the United States and Bulgaria has come here to grow dope because of our rural area. Everyday it's a shoot out, murder, missing person, home invasions ,road rage you name it. All day long I watch then go by in their growdozers with a load of soil and a pitbull jerking on his chain.

Weapons don't do any good if you can't access them quickly enough. By quickly enough, I mean within arm's reach. The easiest way to always have something within arms reach is having it on your person. Having one on your person is far easier than staging a firearm in every bathroom, chair, by every door, at the kitchen sink and at the refrigerator, etc etc.

Holy mother of God that shit is absolutely infuriating to read...

That is why you NEVER FUCKING EVER just open the door for anyone. I only VERBALLY answer the door, and from a distance behind it. One of the principle rules in life is that everybody feels they are safe, until it happens. And it takes less than a few seconds for shit to turn totally ass over teakettle, as a lot of real life incidents demonstrate.

I live in an apartment. One main door. Four rooms. One fire escape window (4th floor). I don't actually carry inside the apartment as one can cover the distance from end to end very quickly. My desk drawer in the living room has my M1911 and .44 caliber 1858 Remington, both loaded. And the .357 magnum Vaquero is usually in my backpack (warm weather, cold weather-shoulder holster) in the bedroom. The building is old but sturdy, including the doors, locks and fire window gates. And they make a hell of a racket when being manipulated too.

if I am in a house with larger space or multiple stories, and have to do things which involve going outside or into a garage etc., then I am definitely going to carry one of the pistols with me frequently.

If I'm awake my weapon is on me, i live in the middle of nowhere where all the meth head white trash trailer parks are and work im the worst part of the biggest city in the area. Had to many sketchy situations around the house to not have one on me all the time, and just the other week I had to work on a car that had been shot up a couple days prior (owner was a murder suspect, key witness against him was murdered, witness's family shot up the car). Employee handbook is strictly no guns allowed, that's the only reason I purchased a micro compact vs the full size I carry when not on the clock.

I'm old, and I live alone in the boonies, so I'm a target.
I carry from the time I get up until I go to bed, every day. And when I'm in the house, I'm never more than a couple of steps away from more loaded firearms. I sleep next to a 12ga Rossi coach gun (Greener replica), a .300BLK AR pistol w/30 round mag, and at least two other pistols.

A little paranoia is a good thing. I refuse to be a victim.

Despite rumors or fake news to the contrary it is getting rougher by the minute. People are being driven to the limits of survival (think Mexico with people just trying to live but having to flee just to see tomorrow) in some places and the list of places is growing.

There are people out there who want/need my resources to survive this week. And they don't care if my Family perishes or if I'm not there to provide for tomorrow. Stay armed - stay vigilant. Shit's getting real in the US as we become a 3rd World Nation and your protection is yer responsibility. The Police are severely undermanned here. They'll show up to record the incident and seek the perps but staying alive is my job now 24/7. I'm the Protector and the job does not end when I get home and kick my feet up and crack a cold one.

    Stay safe. Stay armed.

I carry all day every day, but at home I usually set the gun next to me on the couch/table/etc.

A year back I had a car pull in my driveway at 2 am, and I live out in the middle of nowhere, so this wasn't someone merely turning around. I opened the front door and let the pibble into his fenced in doggie area as I tucked the pistol in my waist band.

Not sure if it was the gun or the dog, but they left tire tracks speeding out of there.

Stopped at the closest neighbors next (about a 1/4 mile away), he has dogs and guns too. Same result, lots of squealing tires and disappearing tail lights.

The orange angels with blood products on board are saving lives.

God bless those who work on them.

And hell yes, carry always, anywhere you can.
How you gonna feel, dying, and your last thought is “well, I thought I was safe here”.
I have a Queen and 3 kids to protect. No matter what. Always.

Cant imagine not being ready and anything happens to one of them.

    “Buy more ammo!” @ArmyJerry

I recently split with the mrs and now live in an apartment. However since the summer of '86 when a gunman was shooting it out with the police while running thru my yard in San Diego, I am never without a pistol on my side while awake and dressed. Then a few years later this was reinforced when some asshat tried to climb thru a window when I trying to enjoy a summer evening breeze. Another shithead kicked in the basement door at 1400 on a Tuesday afternoon. These were houses in decent neighborhoods. So yes I carry at home inside the house, sitting on the deck and I also keep several revolvers stashed in arms reach throughout the house for those days when I take longer getting dressed.

I've been on this earth for 53 years and have never had a situation at home that even remotely needed the use of a firearm. I have one at the ready, but it's not on me when I'm at home.

Some of you people need to re-evaluate your life choices.

It must be fucking miserable to live in circumstances that dictate that you have a weapon on your person every waking moment of your life.

I think that you misunderstand. I don't carry out of fear. It's self preservation.
The world isn't the same now as it was when I was young. Bad people are doing a lot of things now that we never had to deal with. Nobody in Podunk Texas ever thought that their church would be the subject of a crazed shooter, but it happened. We never used to lock our homes, much less our vehicles. But now if you don't, the chances of your privacy being violated are increased dramatically.

I also live alone, surrounded by corn and bean fields, do you? If anything happens out here, nobody will know about it until after the buzzards and coyotes are through. Twenty-five years ago my road saw more tractor traffic than anything else. That is not the case now. More traffic in a neighborhood that hasn't otherwise changed means more outsiders lurking about, which equates directly to a rise in crime. In the last few years I've had stuff "walk off" that was outside my house. I never used to lock the doors, even when I'd leave for the day, but now I have to have surveillance cameras so I can nail thieves when they do show up.

I'm not worried.......I'm prepared. As I said before, I refuse to be a victim. If there's going to be a story involving me on the evening news, it won't be about my death.

There was a post somewhere years ago that stated, in not these exact words, “ I carry because I’m old” . I wish I could see that again to refresh my memory. Getting older, at 66, has its treats and liabilities. Be safe gentleman. As Clint Eastwood stated “a man has to know his limitations”.

reading this thread is expectable, but no less shocking... most of you who have posted live in some environments where the "it's not a matter if, but when..." philosophy is an every day potential.... I am lucky enough to live in a different situation... yet for other reasons, my neighbors and myself are potential targets... for any of you familiar with the Harrisburg, Pa. area, there is a clear geographic demarcation known as the Susquehanna River.... those of who have means are finding ourselves targets... not unheard of to hear of and know friends and acquaintances who have been away and come home to a home that has been broken into and ransacked... there have been times where the families have been there.... so yes, I carry during the day, and I do have arms around different parts of the house in concealed places that are not obvious, but easily retrieved... so for those who might think this a rural or sketchy area problem, think twice...
