A lifelong friend of mine died today after a 20 month battle with West Nile virus. 37 years old. He had underlying issues that compromised his immune system and wasn't able to fight it off. His wife had been by his side for almost two years as he was essentially unresponsive in a long term care facility. He had realized his dream of leaving CA and established himself in a free state in September 2017 , only to contract West Nile 11 months later.
    R.I.P.

I've always disliked mosquitoes, but now I fucking hate them .

That's a raw deal. I hope you will be ok. My heart breaks for his wife!

No man knoweth the time or the place.... Sorry for your loss

Sorry for the loss of your friend and prayers for his Wife and Family.

I live in mosquito country and have been bitten thousands of times, maybe 10's of thousands of times. Its a wonder I don't have something.

@WeiserBucks / that sucks man. Sorry for your loss and to his wife and the hell she has been through.

Different shit and lots some good buddies myself. We deal, doesnt make it easy.

Just sayin, is there anyone who likes skeeters?

    Take care of yourself.

Sorry for your loss and that of his family.

My wife still thinks it’s a waste of money that I stock up on skeeter spray and keep it around like empty beer cans in a redneck pickup truck.
    I echo your sentiment.

Whenever I see crop dusters working I think of all the mosquitos that also might get eliminated. Sometimes a little byekill is a good thing.

    Sorry for your loss

I agree I can't fucking stand mosquitoes or ticks (they remind me of socialist liberals)
I had caught Lymes from a tick a while ago, I was lucky to have obvious symptoms and get quick treatment

I now do this every couple of weeks around my property

Permethrin SFR mixed to a 1% solution

    and a Ryobi fogger

On the side of the house, I use a traditional pump sprayer with the same mix and lay it on really thick

The fogger is more for bushes, trees, fence, grass - think any area where a bug might sit and wait for you

after a couple weeks of spraying, I don't see bugs anymore

That sucks, sorry about your friend. I had a friend get it when we were in our early twenties. Put him in the hospital for 2 weeks and a coma for 3 days.

Permethin like previous post. But buy the stihl backpack blower sprayer. The key is killing the mosquitoes when they land and hang out on the underside the leaves.

Now here is what is freaky, I spray the light fixtures and walls outside. I leave outdoor lights on. About midnight there is a huge pile of bugs on ground, anything attracted to light. Come morning, the wings and legs of the insects are the only thing that remains. Not sure if it’s a bird or frog, but something eats the bodies.

I paid a mosquito company for a year. I got the bills, and noticed the permithen or bifen wears down after 2-3 weeks. OSHA requires them to list what exactly and how much of the chemical they sprayed on the bill. After not being able to have them come out more often due to scheduling on their part, I just bought the Stihl blower sprayer. With every penny. I did the hose thing that u buy at home depot that keeps them away, did the digger, which only kills low level if they are there. The permethin kills stuff in 10 mins, and keeps killing but keep in mind u might have stragglers come into to your AO.

Make sure you have proper PPE when spraying though.

WeiserBucks, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your friend. My sincere condolences.

I'm not 100% endorsing these yet, but I tried them for the first time last year, and my mosquito numbers were way way down, to almost zero. I could workout in the yard, or out in the garage, without the mosquitoes harassing me. The mosquitoes were already running me out of the garage this spring, so I put some out in the yard just the other day. We'll see how they work this year. I put some out at my Inlaw's house last year and it knocked their mosquitoes way down too, and they live in frikkin mosquito heaven, open farmland, next to a river, irrigation ditches, with the irrigation pumps running all summer.

    OP,
    Sorry about your friend.

Taking small amounts of ASV (apple cider vinegar) everyday will keep the skeeters off most folks. I take two table spoons every night in a glass of water. No skeeters, ticks, ect, bother me. Have done this for years up years, many a health benefit as well. When in the woods long enough most will return w/ skeeters bites, ticks, or bugs on them,...but those of us who do ASV an small amounts of Garlic do not.

Feel pretty confident in saying more people die each year from mosquito born disease than Covid 19.

Coworker had west nile - young and healthy - but still it almost killed him.

Every 10 years or so we need a "Purge" on bugs.

Break out the DDT and go to town. The giant population of ticks/squito illness is a result of 40 odd years of uncontrolled populations.

I love hawks and eagles but Rachel Carson has killed way more people than Covid 19. Most of those people are of the brown skin persuasion living in areas with all sorts of mosquito born illness. Wonder if she thought of that while writing her book.

Wow...I need to learn how to drink this stuff. I'm practically a magnet for mosquitoes. And the other health benefits would just be added. I don know you cannot drink it pure or your teeth will burn off. Maybe if I can imagine it as Duchesse De Bourgogne I could muster it.

Sorry to hear about your good friend. That's shocking and I know depressing.

I take two table spoons in a glass of water each night before bed time, not bad at all. If I'm going to the woods for a few days I keep some in a small bottle an just add it to the drinking water. Mmke sure you get the one that says it has Mother in it, Braggs is one of the best.

Excellent information GF thanks! Ticks jump off my dog to get on me!

Mosquitoes, one of the few things worse than a liberal/communist. Sorry for the loss man :(

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. Farewell Bend is one of the worst skeeter places I've ever encountered and I've been nearly eaten alive at the Weiser Old Time Fiddlers a couple of times. Stay safe and kill all the little bastards you can.

YES---this shit works. It takes it a couple weeks after putting them out to start making a difference. I put out 4 of the tube at the extremities of my back yard, one in each quadrant, and there are virtually no skeeters. Living in Louisiana that's saying something. Found them at Tractor Supply.

New guy bringing this thread up from the dead? Did you find his friend there with it?
If they follow their prior post, the will edit this one in a day or so to include a link to whatever site(s) they are shilling for.

I contracted West Nile (the deal, w/neuro involvement) while living in Collin county; I too had a pre-existing weakened immune system. It can present as anything. Collin county had the highest per capita case WNV load for a long time.

What many don't get about COVID, is that even YEARS after a subclinical infection (meaning you had it, but didn't have symptoms) it can be carrying on dormant in your body and even cause kidney failure. I recall a research scientist working on this at Houston, but even after seeing 3 nephrologists after I had acute kidney failure, I was shocked how few knew about this connection, especially in the heart of WN country. Mine was blamed on NSAIDS. Sad. It was first realized in Brazil, when young men, mid-to-late 20's , came down with kidney failure. Why? They had worked in mosquito-ridden sugar cane fields, got WN they didn't realize, and the WN mRNA could still be found in their urine (kidneys) years later.

Few other comments: Once upon a time, "we" had a chance to eradicate moquitoes off the face of the earth. We didn't. We should have.
Don't forget, our favorite Microscoft founder is also in the mosquito peddling business, having recently released a batch "for the good of mankind". I find it interesting there is a WN vaccine for dogs, but not people...I have my own theories on the origin of WN, I'll keep them to myself for know. For a box of ammo and an afternoon out long-range, I may be persuaded to talk...

I just received my purchase of the above, haven't used it yet.. smaller kingdom here so I bought one box / two tubes from Jeffers Pet Supply @ 24.99

Don't worry , pretty soon the toxins from the vaxxers blood should start killing off the mosquitoes.

Btw , if you have enough coke and alcohol in your bloodstream the mosquitoes will usually just pass you on by .

Eating fresh garlic works as well. As a side bonus vampires will leave you alone and so will your wife or girlfriend.
