How accurate is your 22 rifle?

Check out the 6x5 thread. That will break down what a lot of us are using and getting as results. Rimfire isn't much different than centerfire except the ammo. All other rules apply when it comes to getting the most accuracy

Ruger Precision RF (no changes to factory build)
Weaver Target 36x 40 scope
Stock Trigger set to 14 oz pull

Shot using front and rear bag at 50 yds. Target on right is rather rapped fire (10 rounds inside a minute) . Target on right was slow fire focusing on all aspects of firing mechanics. Since this gun is rather new (only got it a few months ago), I've been testing various ammo to see how they perform in this gun. Center X, Midas+ and Federal UltraMatch all work very well in this rifle.


PS: the scope in the picture is not the Weaver that's on it now.

5 shot group at 50 yards with my CZ 455 Varmint.

1 ragged hole at 25m. It's an integrally suppressed 10/22; Liberty/Green Mountain bull barrel ~4.5" w/11.5" suppressor core. Kidd action and trigger, Titan stock, Vortex Viper PST 1-4x, small Harris bipod. Has a small version of a 1903 shooting sling. I'm guessing it's probably 1MOA, maybe a hair less with the right ammo. Sounds like a click when it fires, the impact of the bullet is the loudest part. I LOVE this rifle and so does everyone that shoots it. No Ruger parts in it except the mags. This is how a 10/22 should shoot and feel, Kidd really did a nice job.

My SBR folding 4.5" Ruger 10/22, all stock but the barrel and folding stock. Millet 1" red dot (20yo and still kicks ass). Uses a thread on can, Beyer titanium barrel. It's actually not that bad, probably 2MOA, maybe less if it were ever fired in the prone. It's fun, but I like the integral better. This one fits in a backpack though.

A little lot testing in my backup rifle.. Its a home built CZ455 with a Lilja drop-in, Fly trigger, IOR Spyder. My DJ built Annie is a "bit" better than this one with the same ammo. It will print some .1's, but mostly .2's with 3 of these lots.

When you find the right ammo... and especially the right LOT#... crazy accuracy can be achieved... Like Yoteman's 6x5 100 yard score (version 1). Mind you that is not the best group of the 6... that is the average of 30 shots on the 6 targets.

My #1 gun is a Kidd Supergrade with a 3oz /3oz two stage trigger, in your Titan stock and rear anchor. Scope is a Sightron SIII 8x 32. # 2 CZ 455 Varmint all stock, just YODave spring change with a SWFA SS 20X. The Kidd runs in the low 0.2" at 50yds 0.5" at 100yds with Lapua CenterX, also with Eley Target, and Club. The CZ runs upper 0.2" at 50 yds and 0.6" at 100yds. with the same ammo. It just take a lot of shooting and knowning your gun and ammo.

Got a couple requests for the target as well. It was a monthly match deal on the hide about 6 years ago. Always fun. Only cleaned it once. Always the small KYL dot or a hostage got waxed or pulled this or the cold bore.,.

Print to size. There used to be 10 numbers assigned, but I now just shoot 1-10 as its random enough and I can remember how many squares I shot without breaking my brain. ha.

I get about 3/4 moa. That's a 60 shot group at 50m. 5 shot groups at 100y are about the same.

Someday I'll test again with a nice hard rear bag. I don't expect much improvement, but I'll bet it gets a little better.

The rifle, a CZ 455 Varmint, does quite well.
It's the ammo quality and my wind judgement that need help.
Even a 6 to 12 mph breeze, from my 2, can kick my adze.

Oh boy, where to start...

I have been fortunate to have owned some very accurate rimfires over the years. But a good blanket statement for all the good ones I have owned is:
Center X or Eley Match (black box) is good for slightly under 0.5 MOA average at 50, around 0.5-0.6 MOA at 100. Past 100 all bets are off when shooting outside. For extreme groups of the standard 5 rounds in good conditions 0.0XX" at 50 yards are not uncommon, and for me around 0.250" at 100 are not out of the question. But keep in mind this is SO weather dependent. At 50 yards a 1-2 mph full value wind is worth about 1/2 of a bullet hole, meaning your double digit group is now in the triple digits. You really need a good grasp on conditions!!! (obvious statement I know...)

By the way, I have been out of the rimfire game this year because of my busy race season and having a new rifle built. I just received the barreled action back from Mark Penrod and now have to fit it into my stock. But hopefully Ill have it up and running soon! It is an Anschutz 1827B (factory 54 repeater) that Mark fit a Benchmark 1-15 twist, 0.920" diameter, 26 5/8", 3 groove on. I am putting it in an Anschutz 1907 stock, I have to inlet for the magazine assembly. I am looking forward to testing the 1-15 twist at longer ranges...

Does it have to be a rifle? 5 shots at 50 yards with my Freedom Arms revolver.

How about a video? Remington 40-X at 500 yards. Had two hits before deciding to record. Then Son hit two after I finished so 8 for 10 shots. You have to trust me for the non filmed shots. Wind picked up on him and that ended the hits.

Wolf MT, I limit ammo costs at my long-range matches and I practice what I preach in all my guns.

Was out shooting with my buddy and his dad. They were both thinking a 22 at that range was impossible. After smacking the target a few times, I was able to walk both of them in on the target multiple times.

Winchester 52D made in 1961. The small group was 5 shots from a bench. The other two, one five shots the other ten, were prone with a sling. All at 50yds using Winchester Ultra Match. Redfield 20x 3200. McMillan stock.

Nephews completely stock Savage MK II with a Nikon p-223 3x9. It's only 3 at 50 but I was still impressed. Then I went 10 for 10 on a 1/2" swinger @ 50 and and 5 for 5 on a 1" swinger @ 75. CCI sv, bipod and a bag. Shoots as good if not better than my 455, and way easier too. I really have to shoot my CZ and this $200 Savage seems to shoot itself.

My son and I hit the range this morning. This was his first 10 shots of the morning at 50 yards using Wolf MT.

My all time favorite, single most repeatable accuracy rimfire RIFLE is and will always be the Marlin 39a. I own 3, 64 models, and 1 1948.
The microgroove barrels shot everything.
oneshot 86 and I shoot the flame off of tea light candles at 10-30 yards IN THE DARK.
We could be carni geeks.
I have a hotrod 10/22 and a dedicates ar 24" rimfire, but
they are too ammo finicky.
And my old eyes still love iron sights.

The tea light flame measures 1/4" x 5/8" roughly.
It's a challenge, but very doable.
Keeps that ole front sight focus goin.

Oh I know it's doable?

Groups like this or tighter are pretty routine at 50 yards.

Do the same thing with my 22 trainer out to 300 yrds shooting Eley Tenex. Its a fantastic way to practice wind calls and teach new shooters how to hold make adjustments accordingly.

My whistlepig barreled CZ455. It's a project gun for fun and still load testing. The first is 100 yards with ely club and second is 200 with ely match. The 200 was shot after it had a hundred or so of different ammo through it.

From a sight-in session last December. 50 yards. Ruger 10/22, Kidd ultralight barrel & 2 stage trigger, Victor Company Titan stock, Athlon scope.

Full on Clark’s Custom build. This is my newest one. Waiting on the ammo to come in to see if I can’t get the cheaper stuff to shoot. My other Clark’s Custom rifle does the same. My target master not as much but still way better than my RPR. That one is waiting on a barrel.

Well, here's my contribution. It's a 10/22 with Green Mountain barrel and BX trigger, and Archangel stock. I used CCI Standard Velocity and the best result was from SK standard plus. The paper targets are at 53 yards, the steel ram is 114 yards.

5 rounds fired at 100 yards prone off a bipod. Ruger Precision Rimfire with ER Shaw barrel and Griffen suppressor. Eley match ammo.

10 round group at 25 Yards using Wolf Match Target outmof my CZ 455 VPT. I used a light spring from DIP and this was shooting prone with a Bipod and rear bag. It was hot that day as usual in AZ I think it was almost 100 degrees.

I need to get out again soon just waiting for cooler temps.
