Yea looks like a nice range but is still like 2 hours for me to get to wish I could find somewhere closer we will see lol. Need somewhere I can test loads and such and not have to make a full day or whatnot to do so but

Creekside in Taylorsville is probably closest to you. 100yd for non-members.
Advanced Bullets in Temple isn't too far off. 100 yd.
Talladega. 600 yd.

Ok I have talked about checking out creek side

Rex,

Did you ever end up checking out creek side? What do you think? I am a newbie located in Georgia and looking for places to shoot as well. I'm located in the Buford area, so I'm a bit closer to gunsitehills (about 1.5 hour drive). I'm thinking of giving that a try a soon.

I'm in Marietta. Talladega is heaven on earth for shooters. It's an easy drive once you are on I-20 and well worth it. The 2 coolest parts are the electronic targets and the Range Officers, who are all accomplished shooters. I've picked up a lot of knowledge from them and they've gone out of their way to help me.

Riverbend Gun Club (http://www.rbgc.org/) is about an hour north of us, up I-75. It is a first class facility. The cool thing about them is that their matches are all open up to the public. I shoot their 200 yard rimfire match, which is so much fun it should be illegal. Next one is in June 2. 200 yd rimfire match.

Other options include the various indoor ranges and Pickens County Sportsman's Club (http://www.pcsc.us/)

Two Mikes,

When you say Talladega, do you mean the CMP at Talladega? That place looks awesome! How far does their rifle range go? It's about a 2.5 hour drive from me, but looks like it would be worth the trip a few times a year.

Yes. I was referring to the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park.

The big range has electronic target monitors at 200 yards, 300 yards and 600 yards. There is a 100 yard range down the hill with electronic target monitors. I usually start at the 100 yard range and shoot rimfire (my love) and check my zeros, then proceed up the big range for real practice. What is neat is you get instant feedback with the monitor and don't have to pull targets.

You'll go there once and you'll want to go back and back. They have matches that are open to the public as well. If Augusta National Golf Club was a range, it would be Talladega.

Im in Douglasville and shoot at a range in Waco to test loads it's a 200 yard range. Then I have personal land I can get to 1000 on one side and 500ish on the other side. Shot me a PM and maybe we can work out a range day or something. Will need to cool off ..lol

I’m in Woodstock. Typically go to Riverbend for the hunter rifle days to get midrange practice in, and Creekside for load development. Always up for going somewhere to stretch it out. Was a member at SCOTG before they shut down memberships. Haven’t had a spot to get 1000yds plus since then.

Hope to get to Arena later this month, but my schedule is pretty tight the weekend they have the range available.

+1 for the CMP range at Talladega. It's about two hours from Atlanta but the facilities are awesome, the staff is great and, typically, it's not crowded.

I went to cmp Friday and like the facility and all didn’t have a great experience with some of the staff but no harm really. Nice f-class range for sure

Rex what problems did you have with some of the staff?

No but I live in cobb/Smyrna and would love to know where myself.

I live in Smyrna too and I found it one day on Facebook it think and then found it online they had a 100 yard then just had opened a 300 yard and looked really nice but now I can’t find anything. If I remember correct it was right off 575 like 30 mins or so from Smyrna but I will have to keep looking

Hello from LaGrange, GA.

I read somewhere that the CMP range is not good for sighting in or accuracy testing, because you can't put up targets and get accurate measurement of group size. Is that true? If not, I'd like to go. It's about 1:45 drive from me.

Has anyone been here: https://strongpointshooting.com/
It's less than an hour from me and I only have 125M range at home.

Concerning Arena. I've been to the long range only. Out to 800M worked will for me, but the next target was at 1200M and I was shooting a 308. There was no berm behind it, it was just in a grassy field. Never could figure out where I was missing.

You can measure your group size at the CMP RANGE. Just ask the range Saftey officer the explain it to you. When I was there I ask how accurate it could measure they said it could measure more accurate than paper. I’ve also been to strong point many times. Good range to shoot. Each lane has it’s on color steel target out to 400 yds. Strongpoint also has pistol bays. Concerning Arena I’ve taken my .308 Win out to 1224 yards there with no problems. They have a berm behind nearly ever target now.

I really want to get over there and shoot a competition. That may be a great opportunity to do it. I haven’t shot any competitions yet but I’m starting with some local matches next month. May would give me some time to get a little experience.

pkp, this will be my first match also. tons of info out there about the Guardian matches being noob friendly, so i jumped at the chance to shoot one in GA...last October, but stupid hurricanes happen sometimes.

jt, I'm going to do some checking on this but I think this would be a fun one to start with.

Pretty much all matches are noob friendly. Should def get out and shoot some. 1 day match’s start really in feb with mpa at arena on feb 2nd

What's up guys? Jeter here. I'm out between Dallas and Temple GA. I'm new around here, but have been shooting my whole life. Just recently started trying to get into longer ranges. So far I've only shot to 600 at the CMP in Talladega. Eventually I want to try 1 mile.

I am in phenix city,al blakley is worth the drive but i seem to always miss the range days
You should come shoot some matches with us there some one days are a lot of fun and very new shooter friendly. We have a 1 day match there on March 23rd. You can sign up for it on masterpiece arms website.

I live in Columbus. I like strongpoint. It’s not to bad of a range and fairly close to Lagrange
Was told about strongpoint when I bought my new rifle from shooters in Columbus. Me being from Albany we have a very nice range in baconton but it's a membership range which is the only reason I haven't shot it yet. I do have a mwa range I've been shooting at not to far but it only goes to 200yrd for rifle.
