I wonder if this means that they have lowered the projected MSRP to comply with production class rules?

All about the money. There won't even be 1% of shooters using this rifle.
It's no different than Reebok being the official outfitter or whatever of the UFC, or Coca-Cola being the official soft drink of NASCAR - it's just a matter of who cut the biggest check the fastest.

I woudn't even call it a response to the NRL, considering how common this is in sports as a whole. It's another way to bring in money direct from sponsors so they can brag their product is "The official widget of..." and get exposure via that sport/organization.

I’d have preferred them to say “title sponsor” or something along those lines. “PRS 2019 presented by Daniel Defense Delta 5,” instead of official rifle.

There are plenty of amateur through pro level organizations that do very well with sponsors just like this. If you want to see an expansion and better PRS or NRL, actions like this are the next step IMHO

If DD sponsors a team and enough of them qualify for the finale they will be included in “what the pros use”.
I think its worth mentioning Daniel Defense literally sponsored every single thing there was to put there name on at SHOT show. When I checked into my room at the Palazzo... Daniel Defense room key. When I got my hangover noodle bowls from the cafe... daniel defense napkins and cups. Literally, everything was daniel defense this year. If you've got enough money to blow you can be the official anything.

All of you who think this is a 'good move' obviously don't give a shit about your rights. I find it sad that I have to remind people (what seems like everyday) of this news story and the fact that DD rifles cost about $900 more than they should.
For what you get DD AR's aren't even worth $200 under dealer cost. Regardless of the price you pay for a DD--please remember that you're padding the pockets of a man who wishes more gun control upon you.

Plus not a lot of small shops could afford it.
Daniel Defense will probably sell a ton of these just with the association alone. Maybe not to competitors and hide members, but we’re the minority. Their marketing budget allows for it why not. It wouldn’t surprise me to see a match pop up on TV in the near future, DD will be well positioned to take advantage of that.

I played with the DD Delta 5s at SHOT and was thoroughly unimpressed. The bolt was rough and easy to bind... but they've never been shy on spending $$$$ to push products.
I would be pretty surprised to see a televised match.
Even if the cameras could pick up the trace on all the shots, it’s still not very spectators friendly.
Also, the top guys don’t miss much. So the whole thing would be someone getting into a position and then a bunch of impacts.
To you and I, this is fun to see. But for television, you have to interest millions to be viable.
I’ve been down the same path with pool/billiards. Some games aren’t destined/don’t have what it takes to entertain the masses. Nothing wrong with that.
Needs some serious Schenanniganns and personally infusion to make ot palatable for TV.
Long Range Reality was ok, but even it was kinda stale.
