Official Bolt Gun of the PRS

I think its worth mentioning Daniel Defense literally sponsored every single thing there was to put there name on at SHOT show. When I checked into my room at the Palazzo... Daniel Defense room key. When I got my hangover noodle bowls from the cafe... daniel defense napkins and cups. Literally, everything was daniel defense this year. If you've got enough money to blow you can be the official anything.

I thought this was particularly funny from Instagram awhile back.

Hey Daniel Defense, I am available if you want to sponsor me. I will need a couple of rifles, All the accessories, Lots of Ammo and a very large travel budget.

I need a sponsor for a shooting show idea I have. It's basically Hell's Kitchen but with teaching people how to combat shoot and perform in less than ideal conditions, under pressure, at times with equipment they haven't used before and/or have a whole 5 minutes of training on.

They then have to go do quals, present operational plans as well as may have 'missions' that they then get whisked away to go do.

The entire time, my unapologetic ass is there berating them and yelling shit like 'Pull that fucking trigger, you fucking muppet' and making sure to especially not care about their feelings.

I am available as a contestant and somewhat resemble Fozzie bear.

I just need a sponsor and then making you ruck all your shit up the side of a large cliff while telling you what a fat fucking fobbit smelling fozzie bear you are while quizzing you about ballistics and your equipment and adding weight to your shit for every wrong answer, awaits!

There would also be random porn stars that can appear at any time to give you a mission that you have to complete; and no, stop thinking dirty thoughts. Porn chicks don't like fobbits.

I’m thinking this has potential...

I’ll hit up Stormy Daniels. We kinda had a falling out after she found out my dick isn’t really the official king of the two mile, but it seems like something she’d be interested in

I hope that one day someone gives you as hard a time about your job as you are giving Shannon.

I agree with most of what was written, especially:

"One of my bigger pet peeves on a rifle (especially one that is supposed to be higher-end): the bolt binds! Yes, the bolt sticks at full extension if you don’t push inward a bit as you run the bolt (many guns do this). But this bolt sticks/binds at every point along it’s travel that we tried. Seriously – I pushed the whole rifle forward on the shooting bench by pushing forward on the bolt knob as the bolt was halfway home. Even factory Remington 700s are smoother than this."

and this

"Well, this would’ve made a potential option for some (don’t do it – a Tikka TAC A1 is WAYYYYYYYYYYY better than this) but Daniel Defense made it with an MSRP of $2,200 so it is too much for one class and not enough for the other. Ugh."

I don't have any interest in this rifle, and I felt that this was generally an honest and objective review. Also not trying to open up a can of worms regarding the barrel manufacturing methods. But if on the one hand the author is knocking the rifle for having a hammer-forged barrel, and on the other hand he gives it an A+ in the accuracy department, that would tend to invalidate his point about hammer-forged barrels being bad, no? Am I missing something?

The thing about hammer forged barrels is that it's very expensive to get set up to make them but once that is done they are very, very cheap to make compared to the traditional barrel and rifling processes. I'm 100% sure that is why DD is using them since they are already set up to make hammer forged barrels.

As far as accuracy FN seems to do well with their bolt gun barrels so I don't know why the author said that hammer forged barrels are worse but I'd say it is more about the QC of the company making the barrels regardless of the process used.

You summed up exactly what I was thinking. Steyr also does very well accuracy-wise with their hammer forged barrels. Incidentally, it looks like DD took a page out of Steyr's book by leaving the forge marks on their barrels.

For that matter, aren't the barrels on the Tikka which the author recommends over the DD hammer forged as well?

Again, I will not be buying the DD but discrepancies in these kinds of reviews bother me.

Have all you sheep already forgot that the CEO of DD supported gun control measures back in March of 18'?

All of you who think this is a 'good move' obviously don't give a shit about your rights. I find it sad that I have to remind people (what seems like everyday) of this news story and the fact that DD rifles cost about $900 more than they should.

For what you get DD AR's aren't even worth $200 under dealer cost. Regardless of the price you pay for a DD--please remember that you're padding the pockets of a man who wishes more gun control upon you.
Just like Dan Cooper, formerly of his own company, Cooper Firearms of Montana, contributing to Obama in 2008. Where does this lunacy end?

As Dave Tooley once said; "There are good barrels made by good barrel makers, then there is everybody else when looking for benchrest accuracy."

Really difficult for me to add anything to that spot-on statement really.

Someone needs to tell Sako to stop using innacurate hammer-forged barrels on TRG's, specially since it's "proven".

You have TRG that's not shooting well? That's pretty rare actually. Mine (along with many other close friends) are absolute lasers.

The thing is that this didn't even start with Shannon. While he did expand it to a lot more categories, this started at least a year ago with MPA being the 'official chassis' of the PRS. I think there were a couple other "official whatever" deals, as well, but the MPA one I remember specifically.

My point is - Why should anyone care? I would speculate that it may make things better for shooters of PRS matches. He is trying to earn money to make big changes. Good on him.

That's a new one to me....

I'm not knocking them. It's a way to bring money and attention to the PRS. Some of the companies selected might raise eyebrows and cause some derision (see this thread), but I think it's mostly from people that either A) don't understand what's going on behind the scenes (IE: the "official whatever" is just the company that cut a check...) or B) people that just enjoy talking shit. Most of the responses in this thread seem to have been fairly good-natured if they fall into B, at least. I do think it's a bit silly for DD to get the deal for 'official bolt action' when their rifle isn't even on the market yet, but they also seem to have deep enough pockets to afford the bill. How many other companies could say that? Remington and Savage? There's not many small shops that would have been willing to splash the cash and product needed to be the 'official bolt action'.

I like the idea of a swith barrel/ caliber rifle and would like to think DD will make improvements. That said, there is not a whole lot out there (other than Shot show reviews and the one linked in this thread) about actual users feedback. Kind of a bummer, I'm down with any and all manufacturers adding to the gene pool. Seems like everyone has them for sale, doesn't seem like there is a rush to embrace this thing.

Yeah, and keep in mind where that money is going, because it ain't going into the rifle!

Ruger is dead and I still won't fucking deal with them after what that shit bag did with Cliton during the last ban. Tried to cut a deal making his Mini14 the ONLY weapon you could buy a high cap mag for. Cliton, in pure Cliton style, fucked him over too before the ink was dry, but after they got him to carry water. Rights were not a concern at all to him, just fucking money. If anything, big advertisements in the shooting industry just turn me away. This is and always has been a word of mouth way of doing things.

In other words, I guess it's nice they sponsor, but I can't afford to sponsor shit so I won't be buying their products.

Guys listen up!!!! PRS was not that financially viable in the recent past. I'm not a fan boy but I have owned multiple businesses and understand the costs. I enjoy the humor keep it going, but on a serious note dont let that cloud the fact that PRS needs money to operate. A d if we are honest I think alot of people dont really understand what growth of the sport costs... for fucks sake our ro's aren't paid and they are our safety net...

BRING ON THE SPONSORS SO I CAN PLAY MY SILLY GAME!!!!!

But keep the humor boys!

About every time a Match Director has told me that, it was from the tailgate of a $75,000+ pickup truck.

All jokes aside, there is a lot of money floating around and I believe that with all the sponsors and the match fees, the ROs should be getting paid something.

Considering Daniel defense history, I’m a little surprised they aren’t also trying to resurrect the Gas gun division. Trying to drum up sales of mk12 rifles.
