    Tuesday, I called XLR and talked with Matt about doing a group buy on the new XLR JV fill Envy enletted for an AI AT. He said if I got 10 people to purchase it, they would do the 10 chassis. Depending on demand for it afterwards, they would consider offering it in the future. I chose to speak with XLR bc the new envy with the removable center backbone weight would be awesome and the ergos of it feel awesome, AND I felt as though XLR would play ball more so than other manufacturers. They will be following this post so make sure you show them your interests if you are.

    Let's start the conversation and see if we can make this happen.

    They don't exist yet. 10 people have to buy them for it to cover XLRs cost in material, design, etc. That's what this thread is about. As for now, it's just for ATs. I mentioned to Matt that the AE folks would be interested too but I imagine they would need to do the same thing for the AE that I'm doing right now for the AT
     
    Meant just chassis pic, i was thinking that ae aw at might have same foot print so it would appeal to more people

    XLR makes a great chassis, but I’m not to where I’d consider debonding a AI yet, and probably won’t be for some time (ie, until I can afford a second one, haha). But definitely an interesting idea!

    If it will run AW mags and the price is decent, I’d be in.

    Might not debond one right away, but I’d be in to have one on hand as chassis for AI are not common.

    AE is a round action and the AW, AT, AX are all flat bottom. So, it would likely be a different chassis for an AE. Not sure if the footprint of the AW, AT, and AX all match up though.
     
    I think a different idea along the same lines would be if we could also get the forearm removable.
    I think there might a place to make the AI action part of a light weight hunter.
    Buy a pencil barrel add a very light weight butt and front end.
    Get a AI action hunter to 10 lbs or less and then change parts and go run long range or PRS rig.
    Just a idea but that might take off.

    The new JV fill chassis' forend weight is removable. Take it out and it's the same weight as a standard envy. Plus, given the weight of the AI action, I dont think many people are going to go after a light weight build. Sure, u can make it lighter than factory but it wont be a feather weight rifle no matter the barrel contour. I think the JV fill envy can give you a taste of both worlds. Heavy for a match rifle with the weight in, light enough to hunt with or ruck with the weight out.

    We are on the same page, didn’t know the new version had a removable front end.
    Must have missed it.
    For the few people who have separated a AI what does the action and bolt actually weigh?

    Bolt is 15.875oz. Chassis with action and no bolt is 85.625 oz. Factory 20” threaded .308 barrel is 57oz.
     
    AE chassis will be attractive as it is bolted in. Very few will debone their AT.

    What does a action weigh after it is “unglued” just pure action and bolt.
    Then I can add the jv etc
     
    Action is PROBABLY about 50 oz. A standard ARC SA Mausingfield and FN SPR (both very sturdy/beefy actions) are 42 oz not including bolt. Comparing my FN to my AT action indicates to me that is should not be over 50 oz. not including bolt.

    So 66oz tops with bolt is my estimate. I’m sure you could call MHSA/EO/AI and they could tell you exactly.

    It’s an XLR NV for the Envy that they released at SHOT.

    I used the new JV Envy at a match this weekend and came away even more impressed.

    My brother just put his AT in a MPA. Had butterflies during the 9 month wait but had zero regrets after the match. If you use your AT for PRS style match on the regular then the improve balance of an aftermarket chassis goes a long way.

    Haven’t heard any complaints of the balance of an AT before. Ergonomics for some, yes, balance no.

    is that RRS plate reversed? I dare say backwards but I have a feeling you did that by design?

    Not mine, but if I remember correctly from the AI pic thread, it’s two with the rear one mounted correctly and the front one mounted backwards. Pretty slick if you ask me!

    whats his total weight etc.
    im thinking about making a lighter weight hunting rifle.
    im a chassis guy so if i can get a nice envy chassis and keep the weight somewhat reasonable, might kill 2 birds one stone

    The Envy weights 4.5 - 5 lbs with a their tactical lite butt stock and the removable spine adds 1.5 lbs. Could remove the spine for hunting and add it back for comps.

    That’s mine. Ya, I just bought two and put on on backwards.

    It works well. The arca rails act as if they are seemless.

    The downside is it makes the forearm that much taller. I liked the finger grooves on the plate, but don’t use them enough to justify keeping them on there.

    I’ve since just switched to a thin arca rail.

    Brian you can add weight to the mpa. They have a good weight system setup. They also have a couple light weight chassis's
     
    Sorry by more I was hoping for "more weight loss"
