Just kidding (kind of).

I’ve narrowed it down to the Zeiss Conquest V4 1-4x24 and the Steiner P4Xi.

I was considering Vortex Viper PST 1-6x24 and the Meopta Optika6 1-6x24, but I’m not impressed with the Viper and can’t find much on the Optika6.

Does anyone have any time behind either or preferably both? Is there another optic I should consider?

My priorities are:
1) Distortion-free glass
2) Daylight useable reticle
3) Tough enough to shoot through a cartel roadblock on I-95
4) Gluten-free

I’m seriously considering flipping a coin, but thought I’d check in with ya’ll first.

I’d lean toward the Optika or a Burris XTR-II 1-8

What kind of truck gun?

i was between the viper and the Steiner and ended up with the pst2 for little bit more mag and the reticle. It’s been fine and I’ve gotten some hogs with it.

Whatever you can get a better price on should be the coin flip

Someone reported the 1-6X Optika does not have daylight bright illumination. Can @The King confirm?

FTR, I'm very satisfied with the Steiner 1-4X

That is correct.

Also was coming back here to add that if the coin is there, my current favorite is the 1-8 Nightforce NX8. It’s so little it really works.

The coin is there, but I can’t justify the price if don’t need the capabilities.

Sidebar: I think it’s funny that I’m issued a $600 rifle with $1000+ optics but I won’t spend more than $600 on glass for a rifle I own.

I took a vortex gen-2-E to the range for the first time today and I am impressed with this scope.I think it would make a handy scope for a truck gun.

in my experience the 2.5-10 vortex hst is nice. but your definition of a truck gun and mine may be different.

i went with a 4x ACOG on mine, and even though i know it was ancient when i bought it like 8 years ago, it seems to me the trilium is still pretty strong. its an old donut reticle that been beaten handily on my truck gun.

im thinking its still going strong but i may upgrade to a rco31 with Doctor on top.

A few years ago, I was issued a TA31 with a Doctor. It was a nice setup. A lot of guys bitched that you couldn’t get a good checkweld using the RD, and a lot of those guys are now using Unity Tactical and KAC high rise mounts!

i feel like the way im rough with it and treat the whole gun and ACOG, i would guess the Doctor would take a lot more abuse sitting on top?

maybe i need to think about a 45 degree mount?

I’m not saying you can’t break a top mounted RDS, but I am saying I haven’t seen it happen.

I don’t see it touted much here, but I am partial to my ACOGs. Not only do I feel like I can easily smack @ 600 yds with the 3 .5 fixed, its tough as nails and I’ve never hurt one or even knocked it out of true schlepping in and out of vehicles...

If its for a truck gun, then I would assume its use, if required, would mostly be short range. If you want an optic that's not a red dot, then I would suggest a 1x or 3x prism sight. ACOG if you have the money, Vortex/Burris/etc. if you want to go cheaper. I have a Vortex Spitfire 1x on a .300blk pistol that works fantastic. Etched reticle so I don't have to worry about batteries.

I bought the Steiner a little over a month ago and it is no longer working. Something sounds loose inside the scope and it is very blurry. The scope/rifle was never dropped or banged on anything so it happened on its own. To make things worse I haven’t been able to get a response from Steiner online or over the phone. I am guessing I got a lemon but just something I felt I should share.

I was just about to start a thread about the Zeiss because they can be had so cheap. Specs look good, weight, size, FOV. Reticle looks okay-ish, I'd like to know how the illumination is. @koshkin

I am blown away by people pushing you away from the PX4i. This should be what is on your gun. A truck gun doesn't need 6x or 8x, it needs a great 1x and a great eye box with daylight bright illumination, short and light, something the PX4i has in spades. If you were to hand me an NX8 and a PX4i and tell me to choose for a truck gun, I would take the PX4i all day long, I don't care how much the NX8 cost or what its other capabilities are that have nothing to do with shooting in and around a vehicle.

Amen. I was very underwhelmed the one time I looked through an NX8, I wouldn't want it on a gun I had to use up close.

1-4 P4xi is a great little optic, daylight visible dot. I've traded mine for XTR II 1-8 which I would also recommend if you plan on shooting further, but I'm thinking of getting another P4xi from Doug @Cameralend
