It depends who is calling the shots...POTUS or the Governors

If flu season starts in back up in September why open for a few months seems like a waste of time. Or is it the plan after November to go back to normal and accept the fact that people die of the flu all the time anyway.

Will open. 2nd wave massive spikes in cases. 2nd shutdown will have more teeth/boots..errr enforcement and way way more unrest.

Then more waves...

I honestly believed that there was a light at the end of the tunnel when Trump got in but they fooled me and now our way of life is gone and will never return. It is remarkable how quickly things can change for the worse. We haven‘t even seen bottom yet.

Opening the country is similar to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic... Stay shut down and the infrastructure continues to crumble. Slow death for many. Open quickly, save the financial markets and let a lot of people die quickly... Which choice preserves the food chain? Perhaps watch the choice the Governor of Texas makes. It’s too late, way passed due and no we don’t have the stones. America is gone. Stolen from you like a thief in the night, gone with the wind. We might as well just all accept the fact that we’d be better off just enjoying the freedoms and time we have left with it. That’s hard for me to say to as I’m a freedom loving fighter who comes from a long line of patriots, including those of which founded the country. But, it’s gone. Sheeple going to sheep and there ain’t enough shepherds to guide the herd. The enemies of the US positioned themselves well and China has already won the battle without even firing a shot, maybe not the war but definitely the battle. Time will tell if there is even a sliver of America left. But I doubt it.

I hate to say it, but 25,000 or even 60,000 is statistically insignificant in a country of 350 million. Especially if you figure that at least half of the people that died, would have died from the regular flu. More people will die via suicide if we don’t open soon, than we will save if we stay closed for much longer. I don’t say this lightly, I’ve had two close family members take their own lives.

You can expect that they will not make any major moves toward normalization until the number of cases requiring hospitalization falls below the number of hospital (especially IC beds) beds available for any given area. Even so initially there will be new rules regarding social distancing (i.e. limiting occupancy, minimalizing ill employees and perhaps patrons etc.). Assuming surviving infection provides some level of immunity (not proven yet), when enough people have survived infection to minimize community spread then we will probably resume a much more unencumbered lifestyle. Then those who are most at risk will need to assume responsibility (risk) for there own well being. However if a reliable drug treatment or vaccine is discovered, COVID-19 will just be a historical footnote much like Polio & Smallpox.

My Country/World, is opening back up tomorrow. I've had enough of this F'n shit, I d/n do the things in my life, pay the dues that I have, just to be locked-up in a F'n house.

When we do reopen the Networks will have a counter that is always displayed in the corner of the screen. The counter will be labeled...The Trump Death Toll. You get hit by a bus, Trump killed you by reopening. You know it's gonna happen.

I gotta agree with this assessment. Don't know the timing of the 2nd wave, since we seem to lack information on whether this stuff is vulnerable to higher ambient temperatures. If it is (like typical cold & flu viruses), then perhaps the next wave hits in the late fall. That could be quite unfortunate in an election year. But it would give everyone some time to get "physical strong, mentally awake, and morally straight" (to quote the Scout Oath).

If the second wave hits mid-summer, then holy shit we might be in for a ride. Gonna make '65 and '68 look like family picnics.

Look at some of these companies deemed essential like Smithfield that have been devastated by infection rate. Put everybody back to work and that will be every fucking company in America.

Because people can choose to eat shit that will kill them but they can't choose if they want a virus spread from people who don't get it that will kill them or other members of their family, coworkers, etc. I can choose what I eat - I can't choose a virus.

People can (and do) walk around with this contagion and have no idea they are infecting everyone around them who then take it home and infect their families....my choice to eat food that might kill me won't kill my family (or yours) by proxy.

70+ year old people have a death rate over 30%.

60-70 I think was 3.5%

50-60 was ~1%

And below 50 is less than 1% combined.

Thats death rate. I would say above 70 years old is "high risk" for death.

Then they have the additive factors but I didnt find percentages associated: obesity, heart/lung issues(thats a broad brush), cancer, and I think there were 2 others that led the list.

Infection rate by age is all over the board, but IMO not a number I am to concerned with personally. I only care my chances of dying. In my age group thats .2%. I also dont have any of the additive conditions(at least not the top 5 that I know of).

So my opinion is you really protect those 70+ and all those with additive conditions. Keep them locked down, wearing masks, monitoring, testing, etc...

But for those that are less than 50 years old and generally healthy, lets get on with life, use better social distance awareness, wash your damn hands, stay home if you are sick, etc...

I believe we have data now to support those conclusions... I am a data whore.

Lets get the testing(antibody and actual infection) rolling. Lets get a vaccine developed.

But we have to re-open the economy. If Fauci had his way we would all stay locked down forever. He will never have an answer of "its time to reopen the country" or give the "all clear"...

So, a quick math experiment - let's look at the age 40-50 group, because that's relevant to my interests. If the CFR is 0.2% and we've got 40 million Americans in this age group, then we'd be looking at about 48,000 fatalities by the time we get to a 60% infection rate. That is, uh, kinda high. To put it in perspective, we can compare it to the CDC mortality data for all causes (which is unfortunately divided a bit differently, so let's look at the age 45-54 data). This shows that COVID-19 would rank #1 if those fatalities happened in a single calendar year. In the process, it'd knock down a notch the leading killers: 1) cancers (43,000/year in this age group); 2) heart disease (34,000/year), and 3) accidents of all types (21,000/year).

Personally, that's enough risk for me to change behavior; certainly not full-lockdown-forever-and-ever levels of countermeasure, but probably more than a let's-just-wing-it-and-see-what-happens approach. Looking at my similarily-aged peers, it's clear that the latter approach is already being taken by most towards other health risks, so society at large probably does not share my perspective.

Deaths from flu and HIV are both running at a bit over 2,000/year for the 45-54 crowd, just to provide some perspective.

Arizona could open back up today in my opinion. If your old stay in quarentine or if you have serious health problems already. The rest time to go back to work. We have a treatment that is very effective now. Just needs to be started earlier rather than later and all should be fine. Arizona has had 131 deaths, most of those people would have died if they had the flu or a bad cold because of previous health problems. Of the 3,800 cases in Arizona after a month 75% of those have probably already recovered leaving maybe a 1,000 active cases out of a state of 7 million people. Lets get back to work. I will lose by business of 8 years and 10 more people will be un-employed if we don't. I have yet to recieve a dime or even an approval for any of the loans I have applied for from the government.

Personally they can open Colorado and leave Boulder closed, with a 300% increase in breakins there year over year, that problem should solve itself soon.

LOL....two weeks ago I had papers from Da Gov ordaining me as "Critical Infrastructure" because I keep Hospitals and Emergency Communications Centers online and functional. I finished setting up the County Court System so they could conduct hearing via teleconferencing and the minute I made it all go they laid me off. I'm sitting in limbo....$1200 a month for COBRA and a wife needing a new hip that has been postponed indefinitely. My employer fucked up paying into my Unemployment Insurance and payed into the wrong State so the System (which is overloaded and crashing) has set me back a month getting any money What. So. Ever. My 401K has been defunded but that's OK 'cause it has taken such a hit I'll have to work until I die now to live without working every day. I'm. Fucked.

....and we think America is gonna *Rise the Fuck UP!* and overthrow our Overlords and Get the Fuck back To Work to make sure all the Global Oligarch *BiLlInOinAiReS!* don't lose their investments because US Bitches and Slaves don't go back to making them rich beyond reason. I've been working too since this all started but my state is shut down.I work for a large company with hundreds of employees . Everyone is fine. I say open everything back up and go back to work.

For the quarantine crowd, stay home, shelter in place for as long as you feel necessary. Don't expose yourself to any risk. They are saying a vaccine might be ready in 18-24 months.

I suspect that faint whining sound I hear in the background may be the plaintive weeping of Chicken LIttle...

If you can't go to work and nothing needs to be done for yourself or family, then you could ask: "How and where can I help right now?"

Helping others saves you from going nuts and, in my experience, also exposes future opportunities of earning money.

Most states will reopen by the end of the month. The leftist shitholes (CA/NY/NJ/, etc.) will wait until next year, or until people are rioting in the streets.

I can only hope there is a political price to pay for these politicians who royally fucked our economy and stole our freedoms.

I'm not even sure what to say about this, or why you felt it necessary to try to lay all that shit on me.
I'm terribly sorry about your situation. I guarantee you, you are not alone. There's going to be a lot of people lose a lot of shit over this communist test run is over.

My only point in my post is, that my boss is one of the few to tell the Governor to go fuck himself. He gave us the choice to work and get paid, or not work and get paid. My boss is actually paying us out of his retirement account until revenue or the federal help comes in, if it comes in at all. About half of the office decided to stay home and get paid, the other half decided that we wanted a job after this is all over, and decided to stay and turn out work so we could have some revenue coming in. If you read more into my post than that, it certainly wasn't my intention.
