White Oak SPR barrel sale - 9/19

The fluted barrels show "on backorder" and it's 2 days before the big sale

Am I wrong in thinking these are a great barrel for the price at this sale?

One of my 5.56 rifles has a 16” BCM RECCE 410SS barrel. I’ve been thinking to rebuild into an 18” SPR type for some time, waiting on the right opportunity. Maybe this is it?

You are not wrong.

I have criterion for double that price that has been a miserable failure of a barrel. Looks like this is a good opportunity to replace it.

Read this in a pirate voice.

ARRRRG Matey, the WOA barrel tis worth the price of admission on a regular day. Shiver me timbers...

For real, its damn good barrel at 300 bucks.

Damn, and I thought I got a good deal at $210 a few months ago. Definitely a buy.

You should send me that BCM to dispose of it properly though... that the one with the SAM-R chamber?

The email they sent out said backorders will be honored and fulfilled within a couple weeks.

I guess I better pick one up. Fluting only shaves 5-6 oz, I’m leaning non fluted.

If I pick up a mid gas, anyone know how it’d work if I had it chopped to 16” and rethreaded 5/8” to run suppressed? WOA told me those are ported .078”

5-6 oz is pretty damn good imo. I was thinking 1-2. But I'm not liking how they have to flute through the step for the Ops Inc. collar. I don't use that can so I was hoping to get rid of that step.

That’s the one. It’s been good to me for 500-600 rounds or so. At the time I built it up I liked it for a med weight 16” kind of “do-all” barrel for my primary AR to fill multiple roles. Now, that I have more rifles, I know more of what I really want and suits my needs, and I really want to go 18” with a precision capable rifle.

I don’t know, that’s the tale I tell myself. End of the day I just like a good deal and like to invest in better parts when the deals come around. :)

Pulled the trigger this morning, ordered up an 18” SPR Mid 1-8. Went back and forth between standard and fluted, ended up going non-fluted. Just couldn’t see extra 33% for the fluted one.
Also found Centurion CMR 15” handguard for 50% off at $120.
Looks like my rifle’s getting a makeover.

I used a WOA 18” SPR barrel on a Precision AR i built. It has not disappointed. It’s a great barrel and I wish I had bought another during the sale. But I won’t need another for quite a while and I have concerns it will build into a whole new rifle.

Man that’s the truth. Over the course of the last 2 days that’s exactly what happened to me. Barrel and a hand guard, well shit it’s almost a complete upper, may as well finish it off. Well geez what am I doing with a lonely upper, oh look, a lower!
Dammit.

Yeah. Someone in another thread said if you have leftover parts after a build it’s cheaper to just walk them to a dumpster and throw them in.

And he’s not wrong.

Thanks for the heads up. Have the AE5 so setting up another rifle for it made sense.

Got my barrel in yesterday and installed today. Will shoot it tomorrow to see if it can do better than my previous barrel.

How long is this sale going on? Clicked on the link but it isn’t working. Needing a “precision” barrel for my AR build. What’s the SPR barrel? I read about it on their website but wanting a barrel for target and coyote’s.

For those that have shot these barrels are they sub MOA? Thanks.

It seems the sale may have only been on Sept. 19th. Their SPR barrel is an 18” barrel in .223 Wylde. You can get either a 1:7 or 1:8 twist and mid or rifle length gas system.

Mine is sub moa with Federal FC262 77 grain. I have the 1:7 twist with the rifle length gas system.

WOA barrels are tack drivers. I've had 10+ WOA barrels over the years. The sale was only 19th. They do a big black Friday weekend sale usually. Not sure if there will be another sale before then.

I got my barrel on Friday, and it is gorgeous. Definitely one of the finer examples of machining I’ve had the opportunity to hold.

I’ve got the upper built up. Will finish the whole rifle this upcoming week as remainder of parts come in.

Hope to get out and shoot it soon. I got a bunch of IMI 77gr SMK from Midway this spring that I hope it will like.

I just shot some of the IMI 77gr razor core through my WOA 18 in 1:7 SPR and it loves it.

My 16" WOA 1:7 Recce barrel shot IMI 77 Razor Core really well. I dont shoot factory ammo, all my WOA LOVE 77smk but a friend gave me a 20rd box of the IMI one day at the range to test. I shot a 5rd group at 500yd on paper that measured right at 2". Its definitely good stuff.

10 rounds of IMI 77. Was undecided on 7 or 8 twist. Decided to try 8. I pretty much only plan to shoot factory IMI 77 and Geco 55. Undecided on this barrel at the moment, but then again I've only had it out once.
