It won't really matter for more than a decade or so at the best.
Anytime you have any kind of organization, eventually the organization becomes mainly concerned with the welfare of the organization.
Picking people who then pick for you (and don't actually have to do what you want at all) was an interesting solution when vast distances and lots of time delays were a thing. That being said, I think inherently that idea is why we have gotten where we are and why the politicians are free to lie as much as they want and then do the opposite of their promises and say well it's me or Hitler, so tough.
There are a few solutions that would work to fix the issue, but nothing will happen until a full reset of everything.

Everyone missed what was said: they are holding personal views that are unacceptable to the Canadian government. It's not just that they are expressing these views, its that the government has decided that it alone can determine which views are acceptable and unacceptable. THIS is the real takeaway from his statement. Canadians are not allowed to have views that the government deems unacceptable. Not only put a voice to them, but to have them AT ALL. Personal opinions and private thoughts are now the property of the government. Unacceptable views cannot even be allowed to form. Something very important was stated and the goal of the future was telegraphed. If this doesn't stop you will begin to see actions being taken to create an environment where those thoughts do not have the situations or information to occur in the first place - censorship, authoritarianism and the extinction of independent lifestyles and activities.
Think long and hard on the implications of this: what they think they have a right to in a free man's life and what they are doing to maintain that right.
I don't think many in Canada understand the significance of this moment, even the truck drivers.

My idea would be to go as we are. We aren't going to get any stronger and the people that are probably the best trained are only getting older by the minute. On one hand the other side is doing a pretty good job by themselves of erasing any and all support they have, but we're tearing lives up in the process and I think we are getting casualties as it stands in the non-kinetic conflict. I have no idea what the revolution would look like, but I am embarrassed to say, the Canadians may have figured out the best way to go about it. Locking down the supply chain seems to be something no one can argue about that has a definite impact and no one can ignore. This will effect everyone. Now I guess we see what happens from it.
