Vltor BCG question

I have an Aero upper is the M5 Enhanced and lower. Ballistic Advantage barrel in 6.5 creedmoor. The buffer, spring, and tube are Vltor. The buffer tube is a carbine Vltor RE-10/A5 SR. The buffer soring and tube cane as a kit. A5-2.

The bolt doesnt lock back almost always and basically only when done by hand by racking it back. When it is locked back, it easily gets sent forward on the slightest touch.

So, is the buffer not the right one? This is a new kit. Was thinking of selling it and getting the Aero stuff. Since its the enhanced buffer, do i need the Aero Enhanced budder system??

Thanks guys.

For large frames, the intermediate (A5) length RE uses a AR-15 carbine length buffer (3.25"). Most use a H3 or H2. For the AR-15 , the A5 buffer is 4" long. If you're using the 4" long buffer, the bolt catch is probably engaging the carrier and not the bolt, not to mention the BCG won't cycle far enough back to function.

Lock the bolt back manually. Look at where the catch is holding the bolt. It should be interfacing on the front of the bolt. If it is interfacing on the nose of the carrier, there is something amiss.

The gun functions. I have shot it with decent accuracy a few times. I checked and the bolt is catching and not the buffer. Ill measure the buffer and see what length it is

...the Aero M5 buffer kit is on sale RIGHT NOW and it's the lowest price you would have to spend to possibly resolve your issue.

...you also didn't indicate what LPK you used, but if anything I'd also recommend you use Aero's bolt catch at a minimum, especially since you say a slight touch will release the locked back BCG, that could indicate an issue with the bolt catch's lever. Some DPMS style bolt catches had a very thin width lever to catch the bolt while the mag follower pressed it upward, they were thin enough that they barely contacted the edge of the follower (see attached pic). The bolt catch is on sale right now too, or you can just go for the whole LPK minus FCG & grip so you have spares on hand. Links to bolt catch & LPK:

YMMV, and good luck.
