New car prices

It can depend on where you are at, and what you want, with record demand, and low supply if you want something that's already in demand (bronco, Raptor, 4 runner, certain trims etc.) the market adjustments can be insane. That said if you do the legwork you can still find dealers willing to sell at MSRP or below. You might have to fly somewhere and drive it home, but it's possible with most cars. The plus side is used prices are also at insane highs if you are trading/selling it helps offset it.

I doubt we'll ever see big rebates again, car companies figured out one thing in 2020-2021 they were selling cars way too cheap, I doubt you'll ever see huge rebates off cars/trucks again. Tundra TRD Pro's went from $55k to $67k in 22', GMC Sierra AT4's went to $70k for a half ton, a Yukon can go over $80k now. Around here for most vehicles on a lot $5-10k is the standard markup. If you order you can usually get MSRP, but you might wait a year too.

I'd love to be wrong but I think the days of getting a $10k rebate on a GM truck with another $4k off in supplier pricing are long gone.

Purchased a new Toyota in January full msrp no extra, in eastern Oregon, all the dealers in Portland had additional dealer mark up for the same thing, apparently the small town dealer realizes there are only so many people to screw and they will remember, 3 new Rav 4s,a Tundra and a 4 Runner arrived while I was at the dealer, all sold by noon the next day. It hurt my soul to pay full msrp, ( blew the motor in my car needed to get to work on Monday) if you think new is crazy look at low mileage used, several thousand over new msrp, dealers are making more money than they ever have.

The used car market is ridiculous which is why I was looking at new cars.

Most trucks and SUV’s will be cheaper in a couple months.
You got it right! We purchased our 2000 3/4 ton Suburban used in 2008. Remember 2008, Barack Obama was coming in, George was going out, gas prices were high and everyone was trying to unload large vehicles. Purchased it from a dealer in another parish, low miles, low price and Brenda Lea still brags that it may well have been the best value large purchase we ever made. (Put almost 250,000 more miles on it and I still drive it everyday.). And, despite all that pulling power, it still gets 15mpg. Only truck we ever owned that got better is our new GMC.

Wait a few months of this 4+ dollar gasoline. The big city minions will be begging you to take their HD pickups and HD SUV’s off their hands for a song. (Then they can spend a fortune on one of pete‘s electrics.).

When gas hits $10 pre gallon and it costs $250 to fill that 25 gallon tank...if it will drink regular.

Oil has taken a dump the last couple days, but multiple analysts are calling for $4+ gas’s through November. That’s 8 months!!

I hope they’re all wrong. I really do.

I have to have a truck just enough to justify keeping it but the 13.8 mpg average sucks. That's why I thought I'd buy a car to get good mileage and just park the truck in the garage until things get better.

Well, the new car comes with a payment along with having to fuel it.

However, it’s just a good common sense idea for long term. I’ve always had a truck, but also always kept a gas sipper for daily commuting.

I mentioned in another thread, that growing up trucks were driven for truck things, and a car was for the daily commuting for anything else.

It's something I should have done a couple years ago since my truck is getting older and I'm driving lot farther to get to work. The gas savings would pay for half the car payment at current prices so it seemed like an easy decision to finally buy one.

Bought our Prius last year for 21k which was above my 20k budget...

This is KBB private party value today HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Bought a new Mazda CX-5 in October. Paid sticker with no addendums. Everywhere else locally want a min 3k markup plus the addendums.

Getting a new GMC Sierra AT4 this week and it’s sticker no add ons. Had to go 5 hrs away to get it though bc everyone I’m charlotte is adding market adjustments

You can tell who isn't living in reality and hasn't tried to buy a truck lately.

My 16 with 280k miles is still booking for $34k. It's stupid, considering I paid $17k for it.

Wife ordered a new traverse. She likes the mom-mobile. Cheap, AWD, enough space, enough power, etc.
Used 19-21 with less than 50k miles are selling for $40-45k in the Lt trim. She got to throw in a few options and pick out the colors on a new one for $42k, just comes with a 3 month wait.

Figured she may as well have her first and probably only brand new car, as it'll be the only time it ever really makes sense. It'll take 10+ years to put 100k miles on, so it'll be a long while before I have to do anything but oil changes.

Car dealers have always been nothing but thieves

They are not letting this opportunity go

I bought my younger daughter an econo car back in mid 2021, every single dealer I spoke to in multiple brands all said the same thing to me. Shortage Shortage Shortage, there are no cars to buy, even if they had 30 of the car I wanted sitting on their lot right in front of my eyes

Everyone one of them asking MSRP plus markups and added bullshit fees, etc, etc

After talking to 20 thieves, I finally found a reasonable dealer. I will buy my next 5 cars from that dealer.
I managed to get all taxes fees and other bullshit costs for an out the door price that was still 5% below the MSRP sticker of the car. In the mid 2021 market, that was a DEAL.

Anyone laughing about it being ridiculous paying MSRP, go talk to a dealer right now :D you will get schooled quick by most.

In normal times, I would tell most people if you paid invoice price you paid too much.
The car I bought my older daughter in 2017 is now worth $3000 more than I paid for it new, and it has 50k miles on it now.

Dang, that is on my short list. Unfortunately I'm going to need a new truck soon, but I'll try to outlast this madness before committing.
The truck I am get with all the options is about 7 k more with new interior that’s why I didn’t do it.

Had a car salesman (toyota) in the office today. Said they don't expect to get any new cars in stock for at least a year.

My Silverado's engine took a dump in mid January so I was forced into the new truck market. A local dealer, Toyota of Orange, had no Tacomas on the lot. They are a large dealership and said they sell them as fast as they come off the truck. We started to talk price and the salesman said there is a 7 to 10k mark up over msrp on all Tacomas. I said are you serious? people are paying 10k over msrp for a 4x4 tacoma. He said we can't keep them in stock even at that price. Here is one of their adds in auto trader.Needless to say I went elsewhere.

Financing is what you want. Paying cash is for morons. Cash flow is what matters.

NPV of the dollar with ultra low interest rates means you are paying back with inflated dollars, meaning as time goes on, you are paying less each month in NPV.

People don't think Finance be like it be, but it do.

I told the salesman at the Toyota Dealership that I would sign right now if they gave me 0% interest on a five year loan. He did, and I drove off with my new Tundra.

Better find a new salesman. My friend is a finance manager for Toyota and while they are scarce, they are in the pipeline.

View attachment 7824674I was getting the oil changed on my truck the other day and saw a fancy new Raptor. Looked at the sticker and they had a $20,000 "market value adjustment" -- 25% bump! I'll never do business with that dealership again.

Thats pretty par for the course on Raptor's though even before this shit show. Same with stuff like GT350, GT500, etc...

In "normal" times a dealer might only get 1 or 2 of those per year.

Sorry to hear Supply and Demand is hard for you.

Perhaps you should move to Cuba. I hear they have great deals on classic cars.

Been out of the horse business since 1993. However, deer corn‘s price is killing us. (10 bucks a bag, for 40 pounds)
go straight to the elevator and buy a pickup bed load in bulk, then bag it or use plastic buckets

but did you pay sticker price, they have a way to get their asking price and still collect interest on a loan, it is all the figuring...

We put a new engine in a Chevy 2500 truck because Chevy is garbage and it completely shit the bed at 75k. Cost us $10k to do it. You don't HAVE to buy a new truck, fixing your stuff is an option

Can't wait for the EMP's to start hitting, I'll be the only one in this town still driving.
I'll have to change out my distributor to my original points setup, but thats 10-15 minutes tops.
Of course the radio will be useless, but so will cellphones, so what ?
Even then I still have the almighty Kubota side by side in the barn, pure diesel with zero electronics....except the radio.
It's slow, but gets 50-70 mpg and will climb a telephone pole in 4x4 with locked up diffs and transfer case.

Y'all just sit tight. If the chip production gets back up to speed before the fuel prices fall, trucks will be dirt cheap again. Me? I'm sticking with my '05 duramax till it dies.

Also found out one of our 2021 Silverados with 2k miles windowed the block with a rod. When our guy took it to a dealer to figure out what's wrong, he pointed to 6 other trucks sitting on their lot that did the exact same thing at various miles under 10k.

Really really getting tired of having to fix shitty Chevys.

New trucks are selling for over $100,000 here in commie Canada, so I bought a 95 f150 in protest. That'll show em

100k Canadian is like what? 5k USD?

I have had like 50ish bucks Canadian in my wallet for years, no one down here will take it, I tried to tip a guy in Anguilla $10CAD, he gave it back to me 😂

Too bad MTL is a hoot and BC is beautiful, just need a proper constitution and to get rid of your CEO.

I know, we use play money, but $100,000 in play money is higher than the average yearly wage here. People are mental for paying that.

Huh!

Ive got a 2002 Chevy 5.7 liter with 266,000 and it rums strong. Had a couple bolt on parts replaced, water pump, now a power steering, but the drive train is tight.

Try Amsoil, LOL.

Some of these responses are interesting. Funny though, I still haven't heard ONE reputable financial advisor say, "Now is the time to invest in an $80K pick up truck."
No shit. I know of several places where 80K will buy a decent home and .5 acre of land. Would you trade a home for a pickup truck?

When the bullett mustang came out everywhere I looked it was $10k ADM and they were selling.

That was WAY before the scamdemic and as you said, all the other performance stuff was too.

Link? I’ve always wanted to live in a singlewide.
The one Im looking to buy is actually 100K but its a well maintained, 4 Bdr/2bath farmhouse, with a 24'x50' garage, buth with new roof, huge garden spot, well and septic, on 1.5 acres

But i aint talking.

I also know there theres a nice clean 3/2 on . 5 acre, fence yard for $50K.

I aint talking.
