Paint removal on KRG polymer

I've heard that DEET containing bug spray works well but I have not tried it. It would be something I'd try in a small spot first for sure. You could just paint over it again, no? I repainted this one after someone else's rattle can job. I just scuffed it up and went right over it. You'd never know.

Nice job there. I have an unpainted Xray and I was going to do a W3 copy scheme on it in OD. Just not a big fan of the KRG factory sako green its a little too hunter and not enough OD. Figured it'd be nice to go back to stealth gray factory color but I get what y'all are saying that it probably won't reclaim its factory look after stripping.

#000-0000 steel wool and elbow grease.

Some car painter I talked to said "Old paint that is hard to remove is the best base coat." though...

It depends on the paint and prep that is on there. I used paint thinner and a scraper to remove the paint that was on a used KRG folder plastic grips I bought. There was some residual pigment in som places so I used some flat black rattle can paint to touch it up. Hard to see even if you know where to look.

Agreed. We used to repaint allot of $500K missile shapes in my former life as a Navy Lab manager. That was the the rule of thumb in out navy paint lab too. If the current paint is adhering well, then it is likely a better primer than anything you could replace it with.

How about finding someone that is setup to use soda blasting media? There is also Plastic blasting media for use on plastics

I would pull all of the metal first.

I’ve used Citristrip on quite a few guns I’ve painted. Just slather on with a toothbrush and let it sit a few min. Then scrub with said toothbrush. Works great.
