Raccoon grabs kid in daylight

Not long ago this was just a daily possibility. We obviously aren't the top of the food chain with raccoons trying to take people away.

That's why you need a Pit Bull.
To grab the kid back from the Raccoon
or even a Coyote

WTF was her problem? She needs to kill it. Should have slammed it against the wall until it stopped moving.

Not just because it is fun, but the only way to test for Rabies is a brain necropsy in the suspected animal.

That was probably the first time she ever had to rescue her child from an attacking racoon. She probably wanted to get the darn thing off her arm to get inside to attend to her child; her first and foremost concern.

I am semi-ambidextrous. Having been menaced and attacked by unruly dogs, I've done my share of fitting things with fangs.

Anyway, I carry an EDC knife in the left pocket. It's easily opened with one hand, my left. So I would have been stabbing the heck out of that thing.

If I would have had hold of it by my left hand, my revolver is in the right pocket. It would have got several 158 grain JHPs in its belly.

I say all that because most of us have some sort of EDC on us and would use it. Most women, however, aren't like most men that EDC with weapon on their person.

Most people aren’t like most people (not cops, while different convo there) who carry a gun every day. Even those that carry, some, like most of the aforementioned cops, do the bare minimum and some could argue that the gun lulls them into complacency. The stress of your kid being attacked by a rabid coon is a whole other factor. That’s not even accounting for what happens when those .357 slugs you mentioned pass right through that thing or where they go.

I'm pretty sure you want the body to see if it has rabies/distemper. Hard to do when your first thoughts are your kids.
Docsherm is correct. The lab wants undamaged brain tissue for the test (so never shoot a rabies suspect in the head to dispatch it). Under the circumstances of exposure in that video, both mother and child will have to undergo post-exposure treatment for rabies. It has to be assumed to be rabid if not proven otherwise. Had she been able to kill it, and it tested Negative, that could have been avoided. But on the other hand, based on that behavior I’d be shocked if it tested Negative.

Nasty little fuckers. That is what a 22 inside the door is for.
This^^^^at our old house several years ago we had a cat door in the garage and the wife kept a 5 gallon bucket of cat food out there. one time she didn't snap the lid on tight enough and three of those bastards came in. I chased them out but the next night they were back looking for a handout so again I chased them out.
OK so I tell the wife "game on". Next night I deliberately parked vehicles outside and left some cat food bait out in an empty coffee can. I had an old H&R .22 revolver that I loaded up with some sub-sonic rounds and waited around the man door from the kitchen to the garage and about 9 in the evening, sure enough I heard the thieves tip over the can. Opened the door and nailed two of them.
After that the cat door was sealed.

At least you can tell the cop you shot in self defense and feared for your life. 😂

They taste like shit too! Nastiest crap I’ve ever eaten!

Raccoons actually have the deadliest (to humans) tapeworms of all US wildlife...very high mortality if spread (zoonotic infection) to human. I had a troublemaker that I kept trying to trap with tuna and strawberries. He got hit by a car 3 weeks into my futile efforts.

Wouldn’t eat a trash panda. But, a raccoon fattened on “deer corn?” That may be a different beast. Don’t know. I eat the deer.

years ago a guy at work threw out a bag of jerky on the table during break inviting everyone to have at it. we did......as the taste started setting in....everyone had the same reaction. no one wanted to insult the guy, but someone asked....how did you make it? he started by saying...."on the way home, i picked up a road killed racoon..." and i instantly spit the shit-tasting-jerky out, as did everyone else.

they make nice targets and fur hats. other than that, fuck em

When I moved onto my current property (zoned rural with apple trees) we had dozens of them. Then they go into the barn, crap all over, etc. I'd set three Havahart traps and often they would be filled by the am. Reduced the population and was glad they are gone. Caught a couple of skunks.

You can often spot one with distemper, it's a pretty sad sight, aimlessly wandering about.
