Yep. Powder charge will change depending on powder lot. Load for velocity. You can used magnum or #34 just use a chronograph and load for the velocity of the load.
I'm not as up to snuff on primers as others on here... But I do know that CCI uses magnum priming compound in the #34 primers. So in effect, they can be considered a magnum primer.

Mike yes both the #34 and #41 are magnum primers . I think they had another military primer just for the M852 I trying to do research . After some intense digging found the answer. It was the CCI # 43 large Rifle primer never released to the public in M852.
