My Father told me that everyone, even the blind soldiers, qualified with their rifles in WWII. All the targets will have holes in them when finished.
He saw the NCOs go up to one of the experts and say something like, "Soldier, I want you to fill the bullseye in target #7 full of holes."
Target #7 was not their assigned target.

Notice that the man with the crew cut who got to the scene of the attack after the women tried to intervene merely tried to grab the attacker and pull him off of the woman.
Having been in enough street fights like this, my first response would have been a swift kick to the head. Done it before and guarantee you that it puts the creep down for a long time.
Instead of suffering from a life altering head injury, skull fracture or broken jaw, he will probably get probation and wear some ankle jewelry.
On the other hand, this poor lady will be suffering from the trauma for a very long time.

I get that they’d likely be fired for actually doing anything useful to stop the attack, but sweet baby jeebus, that was painful and cringeworthy

Same with my dad. Qualifying was a joke. As long as you could squeeze the trigger, you qualified. But in WWII, you needed bodies not snipers.
Hell yes. Been spending a lot of time in that area. Retired FS hotshot friend bought the Austin House last spring. He and his wife make a great meal, swing in if you happen to pass by and tell them Matt sent you.
