And that's a documentary! Sounds intense, I'll have to check it out. I watched "Buried" last night, documentary on the 1982 landslide at Alpine Meadows ski area. Very well done IMO, learned a lot about it that I never knew, especially the people involved

The driver's ed car my high school had was a 1976 Trans Am. It was white and looked just like the one in the picture. When the driver's ed/shop teacher retired they gave him the car.

I'm not a fan of extremely dangerous stunt dives that accomplish nothing and add nothing useful to our knowledge of diving. Many here don't know about or remember the death of Sheck trying this at Zacaton. The world lost a really brilliant mind to this nonsense.
....and learned nothing from it.
"Last Breath" is a hell of a story. Some real heroics happened in that true story. Those divers must have custom made diving suits, to hold their giant balls.
I have to believe that they do learn things from this sort of thing. I think that there is a difference between this and say free jumping off of a 1000 foot tower. I’d be willing to bet that scientists want to understand the details of technology required to explore more of the oceans’ depths. It is the most unexplored part of our planet, by orders of magnitude.
Without those that are willing to push boundaries and limits of exploration, there would literally be no progress. Take space exploration for example. I suppose you think that that is also a giant waste of time, money and resources.
The diving community has known how to successfully do these dives safely for many years. I have no problem with pushing the boundaries to further knowledge and technology, but this dive was nothing but a stunt.
