Another little known aid was kerosine. I had my thumb slammed shut in a car door a couple times by my brother, the fix was to soak it in kerosene...

people forget about New Mexico and Arizona. I remember knowing you hit Arizona when the roads turned red. Some of those old roads still exist around Holbrook, AZ if you go look at petrified forest.
