Grew up framing with my dad. Brilliant carpenter. Running things mathematically and stuff clicked in place. We’d read stuff out in decimals to stay entertained and direct input into a calculator…. It was fun .. in high school I worked for another contractor on a few projects and was calling out measurement to one of his ex con workers 96 5/8, half, 3/4 and when I said 13/16, you’ve thought I was speaking a different language. He froze up, looked like he had an aneurysm, then finally said “we don’t do 1/16ths”… I’ll never forget the look on his face…
