Can't be, no Douglas Fir trees around. Grew up a few miles from Oakridge and couldn't figure out how they came up with the name as I never saw any oak trees there.

Do you know the Skordahls? Jean was my aunt, my dad’s sister. She just passed a few weeks ago.

So in 1980… when Carter was in the White House and the country was in the shitter… the world was a mess, two things showed up that my generation latched on to.

First was this former actor who talked tough about commies, said our best days were ahead of us. And the left fucking hated him… called him. Loser. Made monkey movies. Ate Jelly Beans. Look at his hair. He is just a dumb actor, he can’t be president…

That vibe is in the air again.

from the first day of class until the day after election day, my 12 grade Gov't teacher spent most of the 50 minute class telling us poor Seniors that we needed to vote (those that wear 18, I was 17) for Carter, and how great he was, and how Reagan was going to get us all kilt, blah blah blah,

then, the day after the election we heard nothing about the election, and he actually started teaching Gov't

My friend had one of those when I was a kid. We killed a lot of Japs and Germans with it.
That brings back memories....
I remember those things but don't recall any of the gang having one.
We just made do with dirt clods or the odd may pop with an M80 stuffed in it for grenades.
My buddies grandpa delt in military surplus so we did have sho' 'nuff honest to goodness helmets, uniforms and web gear though.
And we had an opposing trench systems about 25 yards apart complete with dugouts too.
Worked out butts off digging those things with entrenching tools....
Those were the days...
