I did 8/4 (1.75") walnut shelves when I added a wall of shelves just out side my kitchen. This was back when you could source large slabs and not break the bank doing so.
I did 4 - 60" X 10" shelves for a few hundred bucks, NOW SSSS... Plus shipping
I priced then today and ouch. I put the shelf bracing inside the 2x6" wall vs lag bolting into the studs. Due to time restraints and being lazy, I bought the factory finished shelves similar to these and the cost savings and quality were worth it.
