I kinda want to believe the the mass shooting research herring mostly because of Crooks erratic behavior recorded on more than one video just before the shots fired at Trump.
First he is spotted near one of the checkpoints with a rangefinder device then wanders off.
Video later shows him on the ground wandering around the building looking up ... *maybe* he started out looking for a way in to shoot up the crowd which requires no magnified optic or no optic at all.
But, after wandering around and finding a completely unguarded elevated position with a ladder already in place used by the watchers who abandoned the rooftop because it was just too hot outside, he decides to shoot from the roof.
All conjecture. We may never know for sure what went through his mind that day other than a high power rifle round.
Either nobody was on or around the building when Crooks climbed up or they were there and ignored him or helped him.
I'm of a mind to believe someone in an official capacity was on and around the building at some point but I'm not sure I believe they abandoned the post(s) without orders or permission.
The questions for me is who told them it was OK to abandon post and when.

This is a shooting forum. If there was a pro shooter inside the building or near crooks, how do you explain the shot was missed?
Using a 6mm+ caliber, even with 30 mph wind, the shooter flinching, and Trump moving - the shooter would have made impact with Trumps head within 200 yards. Period.
That is what my untrained ear heard from the podium mic directly from the live feed off the TV. I initially thought they were suppressed not taking into consideration the directional nature of podium mics and how they might mute the muzzle report. Did you watch the body-cam video from the rooftop? They literally said the team positioned in the other building, on the other side of that window you're talking about, saw Crooks and they are the ones who took the cell-phone photo of him earlier in the day. So yes... they did see Crooks. And the current narrative is they apparently left their post to search for him.

I find it easier to believe that the majority of people in the world are idiots, including supposed "experts", than to believe in conspiracy theories. I chalk this whole thing up to massive incompetence and negligence, rather than a diabolical plan.

But rather than jumping to deep state CIA assassination coup, I think it make sense to just admit that all the decision makers involved, and many of the grunts on the ground, made really bad decisions in the moment, whether from incompetence, lack of training, lack of proper leadership, or improper department and security plan management.

TRUMP literally has the whole establishment working against him. I still believe this to be the case. He's not one of them and that makes him a threat. That alone is why I'd vote for him, I'm not necessarily a fan of how he presents and some of his ideas.

I haven't seen anybody specifically state that posted CS guys with ESU left their position to go walk around. All I have seen is that some of the local guys left that position to go look for him.
If it was the CS guys that abandoned their position to go mobile, that is a major sin and is against every operational norm for a dedicated PMO team. If they stayed in position and somebody else from their building left, that would be an entirely different and possibly smart thing to do.

I tend to agree so far.
I think part of the difficulty in coming up with enough information to form a credible opinion is that "a lot of the details" are infested with inaccurate information, assumptions and mis-quotes. With 95% of the deluge of information being bullshit, it is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Good example for myself just yesterday: Tucker interviewing Jack Posobiec. Very interesting interview and Jack seemed to be well plugged in. then at some point when they were discussing the attempt on DJT, Jack matter of fact stated that the shooter was using irons. Not a scope or dot/electonic. Irons.
I had it from a credible source 2 days after the event that the shooter had a Holosun sight mounted on his rifle. Grainy post event photos of the rooftop with the shooter and rifle shown on the roof tend to back up my initial information regarding the weapon sight.
I went from being all-in on the interview to instantly being skeptical of Posobiec and his sources.
That is just one of hundreds of instances where I think I am getting additional information and then having to walk away from the source. I'm still a Tucker fan but not knowing much about Posobiec, I am not liking that he was taking the title of an SME in that chair.
A weird tangent on the weapon sights, even in the blurry photos it is clear the irons are flipped up. There is also clearly some sort of prism or RDS. So I guess in this case the answer is "both".

I doubt anyone actually SAW a flying drone. I have trouble seeing mine a few hundred feet up.

Agree. When 3 gun was the game in town, I competed in Tac-Iron since I am a cheapskate and the chances to get to the prize table were better in that sparsely attended division.
My AR had a 1 MOA RMR09 mounted mid receiver. With the brightness cranked up it was easy to quickly acquire close-up targets in any lighting, even against the sun.
For longer shots I popped up the co-witnessing rear sight with a smaller than standard aperture (Don't remember the exact diameter right now). That cleared up the dot nicely to a perfect red circle without bloom.
One of the local ranges had a 300 yard range that they would always throw in the 3 gun matches. I addressed that with a pop-up front sight (cross hair in a ring) that was zeroed at 300.
Plenty of fellow competitors expressed their surprise about the capabilities of this cheap, light, robust and streamlined/concealable set-up.
Also keep in mind that the first miss was caused by Trump moving his head in the right moment -Thank God- and that the shooter would have hit a static steel target on that 'stage'.
