warned and ignored about many things
Minor factoid... The Jimmy Stewart film "The FBI Story" is one of the great propaganda films ever put together by the FBI. Hoover was all over its production.
It was supposed to star John Wayne, not Jimmy Stewart. But John Wayne was a member of the John Birch Society. And Hoover considered them to be a 'dangerous threat' to America. When, really, they were mostly focused on Constitutionalism. Not on segregation or violence like the KKK and some other genuinely subversive groups. But Hoover hated them (probably because they didn't like fags, and he was a Peter Puffer... and cross-dresser).
So Jimmy Stewart got the role. IMHO, Stewart was a better actor for the role. He was more of an 'everyman' than John Wayne who was not the sort of character that the Bureau attracted.
While a propaganda film, The FBI Story is a superb movie. Set aside your modern views on what they have become. Even under Hoover, they attracted great Americans who wanted to uphold the motto of Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity. It's why I revered them as a kid. And an adult, for that matter. Until, well, doubts crept in.
MAGA... well, let's try MFBIGA... Perhaps Kash is up to the job. Hope so. I hate when my childhood heroes are proved to be... suspect.
As for the John Birch Society, I never saw anything in that group that was suspect. Just Americans who were ahead of their time and were sort of the Tea Party Patriot movement of the '60's. Which is why they were destroyed by the burgeoning swamp!
