Getting ready to work up two loads for my AXSR AI barrel, 27” 300 Norma with the 215 Berger Hybrid and 230 A-Tip and looking for info on what I should consider the max charge weight for these. I’ve read the 300 Norma thread and my loading manuals and the max seems to vary by several grains depending on the source.
I’m using H-1000
Lapua brass
9 1/2M primers are what I could source.

Would appreciate any guidance on this.

Been researching as well. Just got all the components together to start loading 300NM for DTA. I went through the entire 300NM load stickey and that was helpful but still somewhat all over the place. Best I get is somewhere around 87+ grains with 215 Bergers is when to start paying attention so to speak as a max charge. Folks are loading and shooting with no pressure signs well over the published data in most cases.

I actually used AI to crawl the threads and websites and it came up with 86-87 grains too but I didn’t want to put all my faith in that. I hadn’t originally planned on going much over 85 so I guess I’ll just keep an eye out as I work up.

I shoot a Terminus Zeus in 300 NM with a 28" MTU bartlein. I have my best load down to the following.

Peterson brass
230gn Berger Hybrid
Federl match magnum primers
84 gns H-1000.

This yields a MV averge of 2995 fps with an sd of 6.2 across a 40 shot sampling.

In my set up thats also max, 1/2 gn more and I see pressure signs, YMMV

I ran an OCW test this weekend with the 230 A-tip and saw results similar to yours. 84.5 gave me 2980 fps and pressure signs with the primers.
It also had the lowest velocity spread.

I had a lengthy convo with Berger last november and this is what they sent me.

My load for 230g (axsr 27” 300nm barrel) is just 79.90g h1000. Gives me about 2930 fps around 40-50* F ambient. I start getting pressure signs around 81g so can’t get close to max powder but WAY over max velocity.

As I said in the long thread, the big difference seems to be lapua brass vs Norma brass. When I used Norma brass I got way higher velocities too.
However, something still isn’t right. I’m surprised QL is that far off.

For reference this is what they sent me for 245g LRHT since I switched to them anyway.

My load again is 75.02g h1000 which is on the low end of their charge weight. Any more and I get pressure. But my velocity is above max.

In Dec I shot a belly match. 26* and chronoed all rounds with garmin.

Stage
1 2732 avg 4.1 SD 10 rounds
2 2731 avg 6.0 SD 10 rounds
3 2718 avg 3.6 SD 10 rounds
4 2737 avg 6.0 SD 10 rounds
5 2737 avg 5.1 SD 9 rounds
Cold bore 2734 1 round

Yesterday I shot at 78* F and got
2749.9 5.2 SD 7 rounds

By my calc that’s .25 FPS / *F variation due to temp which seems pretty good to me.

I've run into the same thing with their data for both 230 and 245s using Retumbo. Pressure all the way down to minimum charge, but velocities much higher than published. They show 78.4 to 86.0gr Retumbo for the 245. but velocities of only 2552-2782. I'm down to 79.0 out of a factory AI barrel and still up around 2860 (but still getting some heavy bolt lifts and clickers).

And for the 230, not a single load published shows velocity data as high as the MV listed ON THE BOX of their factory 230 ammo (2934), which I've found to be somewhat conservative out of two barrels now (I got 2940 - 2995 depending on Lot No.), with no pressure whatsoever. Something seems wonky with their 300NM data, velocities being way low, published vs. actual.
