I decided to build a 22 Creedmoor before it gets uncool to have one. Barrel was bought on sale from J&A Outdoors and chambered by Black Canyon Customs. So far it’s been a straight hammer with Hornady Precision Hunter 80gr ELD-X factory ammo.

This old ESS is perfect for my newish 223 build. Was impressed with the accuracy at 600 in some crazy winds and rain this past weekend. So fun and cheap to shoot.
I’m an idiot…. The barrel is actually 18”. I went back and forth on whether to cut it 18” or 20” and wasn’t thinking when I posted.. I edited it. Thanks for calling me out! I guess I’ve had to many crayons this evening!
This style stock and 16”-18” barrel is the most ascetically pleasing setups. With lower profile scope like an US Optics x17 or x10, Mark 4 or 6 would be

Thanks man, it’s an 18” Bartlein M24 contour that SPR spun up for me. It’s heavy at 18 pounds but it feels like a 22 recoil wise. I have used a little Varget, 2230-C, Benchmark, N140, and 748 but settled on StaBALL Match for the convenience of ball and consistency of stick powder.
Running both the 75 and 80 ELDM’s with 26.0 grains at 2.500” OAL. The 80’s are running just over 2800 fps. I got the 75’s up to an average of 2960 using 26.0 grains of Win 748 but the SD’s were really high. Using Starline 5.56 brass and Rem 7 1/2 primers.

Ill post some pics of mine when I get back to the house, I prefer 14-18" barrels on 308/6.5CM. My range for those rifles are typically always under 400 though.

I thought that barrel looked like a thick boi.
That seems pretty fast for an 18" barrel, my Tikka was really slow with Varget, ended up with Benchmark and 73gr ELDs.
Yeah I have read that Varget is a bit slower in a 223 than some other good powders so that’s probably most of it. Is your Tikka barrel factory? I am at 2755 with Varget with the 75’s and 2721 with the 80 ELDMS. Not sure how close that is to your velocities.
Sounds like the StaBall Match isn't as close to Varget as I thought it was.
My Varget loads with 75gr BTHPs were barely breaking 2600fps whereas I ended up using Benchmark and am getting 2750ps with 75gr BTHPs and 2780fps with 73gr ELD-Ms.
Factory Tikka barrel which does appear to be slow from other loads I've tested.
Got it out and zeroed for some coyote hunting. 55gr hornady varmint shot this today in some wind. Pleased so far.
Anyone tried a short barrel 6 CM? Just wondering if there would be any issues as opposed to a 6.5CM?
I will have one eventually. I got an 18” carbon fiber barrel blank but will be looking for a 16” in the near future.
I have a 16” 243, so similar. Shooting light bullets for coyote hunting and it’s been awesome. I was shooting 58gr vmaxes at about 3300 and have since switched to 65gr Noslers. I haven’t even cronoed them but longest kill was 300 yards with my thermal.

What twist barrel are you using?
Is it a Proof CF or? I was looking at going with CF versus SS but still thinking it over.
Mine is actually a factory Tikka 1:10 twist that was cut to 16”. I never intended on shooting heavy bullets with it so it works good for me. Maybe not much of a useful comparison for your case though.
I've got a 19" Osprey 6mm CM, no problem on good speeds at 18-19", no experience with shorter than that.
My loads are 103 ELDx at 3040 and 108 ELDM at 2900 with H4350 and Lapua brass.
18” 6 Creed, 80gr ELD-VT at 3380 and 87 V-Max at 3280. No runners with either bullet. Longest kill at night is 500 so far.
My 20” is a proof CF, 18” is an X-caliber CF. I’m working on a 16” 6.5grendel carbon fiber too.
My Surgeon CSR has a 16.5 Heavy Palma Krieger and it’s a chunk.
I like the weight of CF, Proof Sendero and X-Calibers CF contours.
I don’t think with everything being the exact same that you could tell a difference between the two.
My shortest is 18",running 112 Barnes at 2950 with rl26 suppressed. It's about 1.5gr below psi. The powder is very dirty and needs cleaning approx 60/70 rounds or velocity creeps from carbon fouling. Its a hunting rifle so I don't mind the cleaning a few times a year.
I see 7.5 tw in 4 groove and 5R barrels for 6 creed. Don’t know what would steer a buyer towards one or the other?
Loved mine when it was a 16" 1:8 twist. Stupid accurate.
If you go shorter to something like 7-9" of barrel, get a 1:5 twist. You run the risk of losing accuracy with subsonics if the bullets not making at least 1-2 full turns in the barrel before exit. At least iny experience. And most plated bullets are still fine at subsonic speed with a 1:5 twist (just confirm with their manufacturer).
