5 speed Ferraris have reverse above first…like most racing inspired 5 speed shift patterns.
“Straight” First to second shifts are great for 0-60 times but are not as important as the H pattern where it counts while on track.
Add to it you never go from 5th to 2nd so there is limited probability of jumping to reverse if something goes wrong.
Yup, that's usually called a dog leg pattern. Lots of homologation cars use that pattern as well as cars that manufacturers want to have a racy image.
190e Cosworths, 928's, Countach, E30 M3, Stratos (and by extension the Stratos HF Zero I posted above) all have doglegs. It used to be a point of pride, now most people have never heard of it.
