Favorite Chassis choice

I've been using an MPA comp chassis since I began shooting a few years back. Lately I've just not been happy with it or maybe I just want a change for no real reason. Anyway onto my actual questions.

I shoot primarily team sniper type comps and PRS. I'm thinking I'd like a lighter chassis for field matches and a heavier chassis for PRS that I could just swap out. I've been looking at the KRG and MDT but never held or shot them before. Tell me what y'all have. Give me feedback on what you like about them and pictures get bonus points.

I like MDT as well as MPA I have even tried Magpul Hunter, Accuracy International, and even McRee Precision. I liked them all. They each had a different feel, but MDT was just s a little more adjustable so far, I have not yet received my MPA yet.

I’ve shot about every chassis made over the years and the XLR Envy Pro is hands down my favorite.

I have chassis’s from mdt, XLR, krg, and aero precision. The aero is one of my favorites. Too bad they are a garbage company lately but the aero comp chassis is very well made. They even have an adjustable mag latch which I think should be mandatory for any aics mag well.

I have owned XLR envy pro and mdt ACC premiers and have shot most of the big name chassis out there KRG, AI, few different model MPAs etc.

My favorite all around is the XLR. It can be light ish or rediculously heavy, balances well, doesn’t flex like the MDT ACC premier, has plenty of accessories and options, and tons of adjustment. I will be honest, the XLR I think is one of the ugliest but it sure does perform great!

My favorite “feeling” chassis is the MPA Matrix but i didn’t like how it balanced as well and the weight of it.

Chassis are so different. The XLR just would not work for me, felt alien. Yet its @Baron85 ‘s all around favorite. My MPA BA is ok, but the ESR which appears to be almost an identical twin shoots completely different and I much prefer it. Sure would be nice if there was a way to be able to test chassis side by side. The current field of chassis / stocks is so wide and varied, it’s hard to make a qualified choice.

I agree @Dead Eye Dick, it’s not as simple as this 1 chassis is the absolute best. If that was the case there would only be 1 high end chassis.

The best thing to do is try to go to matches, I know many people don’t have easy access to matches but sounds like OP does. People are always willing to let you handle their guns and usually willing to let you squeeze off a few rounds.

Second best is what I have done a bunch of. I have spend thousands of dollars on here and other forums, buying used chassis, scopes, actions, triggers etc. I have found that’s really the best way to find what you like without losing a ton of money. Every now and then you can actually make a little money.

I’ve never heard of a cadex but at first glance I like it. Can you add weights to it? I assume it’s well balanced?
I like the idea of a foldable stock too. Otherwise I’d probably just go with a manners.

I've tried most of the usual suspects (MDT, Manners, KRG, MPA, Foundation), but before I say anything, what works for me may not be what works for you.

In general, I dislike the recoil feel of the all-aluminum chassis I've tried (and it's been a bunch of them). I'm even one of the few who didn't dig the MDT ACC Elite I had (and IMHO that's the only aluminum chassis I'd choose). I haven't tried the Vanquish, but as far as the others, the MPAs aren't for me. I'd like to try a Foundation Samson that's not set up to be ~30lbs at some point... The Foundations ooze quality and have a great recoil feel, and even though I'm not a huge fan of the "grandpa's rifle" look or the way really wide forends settle and ride on bags, I might end up running one at some point.

My 2 favorite chassis that I've run are: KRG Bravo and Manners TCS.

A stripped $350 Bravo isn't too exciting (though it's a great lightweight/hunting rig), but a ~$700 Bravo decked out with a bunch of KRG weights and stuff is as good as just about anything else and better than most (and not just "for the money"). A kitted-out Bravo is legit performance-wise, it just won't ever feel "premium" compared to most other more expensive rides. Worth noting: the Bravo's "cheap" polymer dampens the vibes more than one would think, a ~22-23lb Bravo is a smooth-shooting PRS rig (and feels better than any of the all-aluminum chassis I've shot).

A Manners TCS is super high quality and feels almost as dead as a Foundation, but it has a just about perfect (IMO) forend width for riding a Gamechanger. A TCS with a stout barrel and all the weights they sell will only get to ~23lbs (which is good for me, YMMV), or, one can pull off the rail and weights, swap an SS for a CF barrel, and then it can be a respectable hunting rig...but that's only if you wear XL/L gloves, otherwise the grip to trigger reach is too much for most.

Chassis/Stock selection is probably even more personal than reticle choice. My best advice is to try as many as you can, ignore bells and whistles, and look for features that you'll appreciate over the long haul.

External weights through the mlok only but it’s already a pretty heavy setup - ballpark around AI weight based on feel

I currently dont have a boltaction rifle, but through the years I have been coming back to KRGs Whiskey 3 chassis. I think I have had 4 of them by now including their folding stock for the Sako TRG. Ergos and quality are great.

If I were to build a new comp gun I would run the KRG C-4 for sure.

I'll throw in another for the vision pro. I don't think there's anything they didn't think of when it comes to adjustability. At least from a practical stand point.

Fabulously well designed and wonderfully machined chassis. No pings or flex in them and the ergonomics are great.

My local friends @GBMaryland and @TheOE800 have them and also appreciate them very much.

Get a folder with it...makes it WAY easier to clean.

I have a couple KRGs and have/had several MDTs. The Whiskey 3 just fits me, and I keep going back to it. I think the MDT ACC Elite has higher likelihood of fitting more people. The KRG can be a little lighter, and the MDT could be configured a little heavier. The MDT is pretty much good-to-go out of the box, and the KRG will likely require quite a few accessories to get it where you want it.

I think the HNT26 is currently the best chassis choice if you are trying to shave weight. But I wouldn’t throw a heavy contour barrel in it.

No weights. Vision foreend adds a few oz, but is overall lighter compared to my setup prior.

Included plastic forend, arca spigot, arca rail, spigot NV bridge.

No weights or control bridges

The included CF grip is slightly lighter than the B5 grip by ~1oz(ish)

My Whiskey 3 is my favorite that I've used. Just fits me like a glove. Currently holds my 6GT (Origin + 26" Proof comp) and it has an overmolded cheek piece, an enclosed ARCA forend, and no weights added to it. A Vision forend would probably be an improvement for a dedicated PRS setup, but for a hobbyist general purpose shootin' stuff rifle I really enjoy it.

I played musical chassis for years before landing on MDT elite. It's by far the best chassis I have used to date. The vision pro is also well thought out. Both are about $2k fully kitted out.

Yeah, but even so I'd rather do business with outfits I trust and respect and OP is not one of those. GCP has always treated me very well.
