I'm partial to Glocks, I do enjoy shooting the G44 as it's a hard gun to shoot accurately and it makes one knuckle down on the fundementals. My 2 have never had a malfunction, probably 5-6 various loads.
I bought my first G44 in February 2020 shortly after they were released. I have 20,000 + trouble free rounds fired through it. I was able to get a complete G44 slide at a good price in 2021 so installed it on a Lone Wold frame. That one has at least 10,000 rounds fired through it, agin no issues. I do stick with good ammo such as CCI Mini Mags and Aquila Super Extra.
The downside to the G44 is there is no viable option for a slide mounted optic. Nelson Precision is the only company to attempt to make an aluminum optic ready slide and they never got it to work reliably.
If you like Glock pistols and want a 22lr then the G44 will serve you well.
Be careful with slide mounted optics on a lightweight .22 upper. Just the extra weight of the optic can cause reliability issues with standard velocity ammo. I swapped out the plastic irons on a GSG 1911 style .22 for some metal ones. Just the weight of the steel iron sights necessitated me going up to CCI 1400 fps loads for it to cycle 100%.
If you are interested in adding any kind of extra weight like an optic on a reciprocating .22 slide, keep this in mind.
With all that said, a close shooting friend of mine has the G44 and it is a hoot to shoot. Very reliable in both our hands with all kinds of ammo.

This is true. Every tenth of an ounce matters when it comes to rimfire pistols with reciprocating slides. Same goes for 22 WMR pistols too. I had to go with the Sig Romeo Zero and a polymer mount on my Kel-Tec PMR30.

Also with the G44- cci mini mags . Thought I missed , no reaction at the shot then he just tipped over . Was aiming top of head at about 19 yards - hit him in the mouth .
