Rifle Scopes PRS/NRL22 scopes

Hello guys need ur help as I’m new to the game. So I’m noticing that the 22lr rifles I use with high power scopes 6-24 or 5-25 even 6-35 seem to do better than mid power scopes. A friend gave me a 1/8 moa 3-15x50 ffp scope that goes down to 15 yards. Anyways I really struggled when I’m doing adjustment from 50-200yards that I just used the hold over reticle marks. What is this scope supposed to be used for? Hunting? Also since the reticle is faint I crank up the magnification to 12x but it’s still hard to see the tiny dot in the reticle. If I’m just shooting 50 yards only I have no issues at all. Should I buy a high power scope for this rifle like my other 22s? This is a tikka t1x with 16inch barrel. Again it’s bullet on bullet at 50 yards and at 100 yards I have to do so many clicks up and waste so much ammo to resight the scope. What are ur thoughts?
 
Many of us have higher power scopes on the 22s than the centerfire rigs. My 22 rig wears a ZCO 8-40. We are using First Focsl Plane (F1 or FFP) where the reticle gets magnified with power adjustment. On Second Focal Plane scopes the Reticle remains a constant size, which makes it harder to judge how much to adjust.

No idea what scope you are talking about so no idea what it’s made for. Just told us the power and that it’s 1/8 moa. Is it SFP? FFP? If you can’t see the reticle then you are answering your own question. Also does it have illumination? Try turning it on.

There should be no waste of ammo going from 50 to 100. You are zeroed at 50 and just look at what your 100 yard data is and dial it on. That simple. No ammo wasting.

I guess what may be confusing me is the 1/8 moa and needing more clicks compared to 1/2 or 1/4. I gotta stop buying all different scopes and stick to only one and get used to it either moa or mrad as well.

You need to understand what the bullet drop is at 100 yards so you can alter you elevation settings ( either dial with the scope turret or hold the scope center off the target). What makes the MRAD ( mil) convenient is that a spotter can call a value and have it match your scope.

Still we have no idea what scope you are using. What scope is it? Brand and model?

If you do not know how to get data for going from 50 to 100 then you have a larger problem than the scope. Have you heard of ballistic programs? You put in your rifle, bullet, and environment and it gives you the number you need to dial to get from 50-100. Just looked at my data and it’s about 6 moa. But for example say it’s 6.5 moa. If using your scope I would dial to the big number 6 on the turret and then if it has a 1/2 mark between the numbers I would dial there and if not then 4 clicks past the 6 moa mark.

And the scope being in 1/8 moa just means it’s a finer adjustment. You aren’t counting clicks all the way are you? Scope makers put a big number on the turret for a reason. If you need 10 moa are you going to count 80 clicks? I hope not. Dial to the 10 on the dial and you are there.

This is exactly what I needed. Also found a ton on my iPhone App Store. The only thing I need is to find all the plug in info but I think that’s not too hard. I’m gonna get rid of my moa and stick with mrad. Didnt wanna mention the brand as it’s a cheap Chinese scope lol. Thanks for the help.

Don’t worry about the scope cost, we are trying to help. Sounds like you are fairly new to the game and we can help eliminate some of the start up pain. The more we know the better we can help.
 
The first three inputs in that pic can remain the same. You really need to get the velocity, sight height and then add your environmental info in the last 4 inputs which can be found in most any local weather data. If you don’t have a chronograph then just use the generic data for the ammo you use and it will get you close on paper at 100.

Just use that above and don’t mess with apps yet until you understand the above. It’s simple snd free online. When you hit calculate you can print that page and take it to the range with you.

This is how to measure sight height. It’s that simple. Center of bolt to center of windage knob.
