Nothing says ‘bad decisions’ like a bottle of distilled regret, aged in poor choices.

Is that you John Wayne?

Stumbled into Winterset, Iowa today. Birthplace and childhood home of The Duke!

Cool small town with a gorgeous municipal building!

John Wayne (Marion Morrison, actually) lived there from 1907-1916 when the family moved to California.

It's a Vector 390 spreader truck.

That looks to be one of the Venturi series of spreaders made by RBR Enterprises, same company that makes the Vectors.

Kinda funny, isn’t it. Dad was infantry in Korea, 52. Never spoke about anything specific until I returned from my first tour there. Always slept with his eyes half open. Mom said he never did before. Those guys were different.

True, my Dad served in WWII I never even knew he was in the ARMY till I was a teenager. I never heard anything about it until I was well over 40. He finally told a few stories to my wife when he reached into his late 80's.
Brother and cousins were Viet Nam era, I was 14 years younger and basically forbidden to even consider military service.

Bet you Omaha boys know this place!

If you are still in Omaha area, Zio’s pizza was a top spot when I lived there (4 yrs of college).
Stoners building the pies tend to load up the toppings.
Dundee Inn used to be a top spot for whisky with a HUGE list. Apparently well known for it.

If you are headed west, see if you can hit Ole’s for a burger in Paxton. A lifetime of trophies from hunting across the world on display (in BFE nebraska) and the burgers are just good.
Taco De Oro in Gering for Mexican. Local fav and been there for a LONG time.
OK grub, but an institution if you will.

Crawford and Ft Robinson just north of there have some amazing history (back to the Red Cloud Agency, death of Crazy Horse, and a WW II POW camp.

Ft Kearny on the Platte near the town of Kearney is pretty cool too. As is the old Pony Express Museum in Gothenberg.

Morton mansion (of Morton Salt fame) in Nebraska City is really cool.
There is a huge bench at a park there that is acoustically perfect. Long curved deal and you can hear a whisper from one end at the other.

Snyder Precision in Lincoln if you need some ammo, a spare mag, or anything. A sponsor here and a solid dude!!
