Well, the Wilsons, Baers, Nighthawks, STIs, Colts I own all require a spring to lift the slide stop. No idea what you own.
When I was little my folks would take me along to dances on the weekends.
When it was time for me to settle down, dad would mix me a CC sour.
Must have worked because I always remember waking up in bed the next morning but not sure how I got there.
I remember mom saying we did go to some dances in Eastern Nebraska where Welk played.
Later on I don't think they ever missed his Saturday night tv show.

The slide stop on a 1911 does not have a spring. It will engage by the force of the magazine follower.
