any one know of any that work? several little fans on market pushing ambient air thru the bore . had 1 and it was useless. pushing ambient air (95+ here in summer) is pretty much a non starter. any other devices on the market or knowledge about making one?

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

The Riflekuhl does work but is delicate, sounds annoying as F and chews through a battery quickly. Additionally the magnet will wipe the compass calibration on a Kestrel if it gets anywhere near it.

Someone else (here I think, may have been accurateshooter though...) made one from a rechargeable air mattress pump and vinyl tubing.

Amazon product ASIN B0923NQK83
They also cut the base off a piece of brass for the specific rifle(s) and used it as a form fitting nozzle, not really needed IMO, a good fit on the tubing to the chamber is enough.

Water works, run a patch after for the quickest cool down.

But I use a large camping fan and make sure to stand the rifle up, helps cool it faster

17.99 + shipping on amazon .
one of these pumps with a smaller hose to put inside the chamber is great we also have one of those chamber chillers but the air pump puts out 100x's more air it's not quiet but it works and is cheaper than the chamber chiller at almost 40.00 or more ( items related to shooting they jack up the price ) it can charge in your car if need be but holds enough of a charge that's lasted us two trips to the range .

I made one.

Bought this:
Amazon product ASIN B07L9M8T8Fand
Amazon product ASIN B094G1GL8T
Works OK for the $15 I have in each of them.

If the air’s 95 and let’s say your barrel is 200 it’ll still cool through convection. It probably just didn’t move enough air so it was slower. That’s why a fan feels cool, but a blast from a high pressure air hose feels cold.

Get a small air tank and rig up a long soft nozzle and blast the heat out. Seems like a good excuse for a small onboard compressor mounted under your vehicle.

This works great but is a little loud. Even has a tube that fits in your action

LIVOWALNY Cordless Dust Blower for Dewalt 20V Battery, Leaf Blower Brushless Handheld Blower Sawdust Blower 447 MPH/39 CFM for Garages, Sawmill Room, Workshop Cleaning (No Battery) on Amazon

Being a cheap bastard, I bought a $6.99 amazon rechargeable "stroller fan" that I set up on the next bench and it blows air thru my suppressors and out the end of the barrel. It cost almost nothing and I can cool two rifles down at a time.

Best barrel cooler we used to use was "Winter Breeze". It was a 15# Co2 tank, had some sort of reducing orifice and a generic chamber plug. Even had brackets to hold tank under shooting benches. Worked very well, when we used to bring way too much stuff to shoot prairie dogs. Now we just bring another gun and swap out.

Yeah I was going to riv-nut one in the bed corner, or go all under

Riv nuts would be awesome! I cheated and used high grade heavy stainless security sheet metal screws. My time was mostly spent running 4 gauge high strand tinned cable to the bed in plastic loom with 24k gold plated lugs and a 250 amp breaker. I terminated at an anderson plug.

I have auto deflators and a four tire inflation hose system. With this setup after hunting I run the hoses, set the pressure jump in the truck to stay warm or cool while it pumps all four tires from 15 to 45 psi in around 6 mins. And shuts off automatically.

Adding a tank is my next move.

I have seen pros (real pros not wannabes) cool their barrel with a cloth soaked in cool water.

My solution is more elegant (and one heck of a lot more expensive).

I two rifles when practicing with centerfires. Shoot one for practice, set it aside and then shoot the second all the while keeping very close attention to barrel temperature (never letting it get above 120 in cool weather or 140 in the summer. Plus in the summer, I have the luxury of being retired and shooting early in the morning. Finally, I don’t shoot maximum loads.

Shooting matches, you can throw all this away.

This topic brought up not too long ago. Use similar setup. Mine use the horrible freight version. Think all major brands have a version of this inflator. If you have cordless drill check your brand line up that way don't have to get different batteries. The one I have moves quite a bit of air, doesn't take long to cool off. Rechargeable batteries is a big plus.

Having a 2nd rag for the shooter isn’t a bad idea either.
I thought these were bullshit till somebody gave me one

I made one but it died after just a couple months. Loud as hell but even in hot weather cooled the barrel in just a few minutes. Total cost a bit over $20.

Blowing air is not doing much. You aren't removing heat from a thick barrel without something to absorb the heat from it, such as a cold /wet rag. Early machine guns used water sleeved barrels for this reason. Air is a poor conductor of heat.

I’ll tell you what is a darned fine conductor of heat.

After a practice fire mission, firing full automatic, my M16 barrel did a darned fine job of transferring barrel heat to my fingers.

The M-16 I was issued in Vietnam was a good rifle. However, I wouldn't give a nickel for any of those M-16’s used for Infantry AIT, we pushed and abused those poor rifles pretty hard.
