Talk to me about the A3 ops prototype. I have been lowkey obsessed with the A5 and enjoy learning all about it but I’ve become an Allen engineering enjoyer and the A3 proto is my new obsession as I’m looking to start one id love to learn all the history behind it. A few pics for reference

Yes sir that is mine. Ops A3 is a sweet one. Topped mine off with an 8541 vs the unertl I only know of two that have been cloned including mine so far.
Yours is the best picture I’ve found, any idea as to why they abandoned the ops program when they went to the A5? I spoke to Allen engineering about it recently and they have some theories that include bribery lol but I haven’t found anything official

Not very much info out there at this point even after talking to a couple 2112s I know that have been around for awhile. These Ops rifles you see with the unertls are pre A5 era by almost a decade since the A5 was being fielded in 2009 so the A3 was definitely hanging around a few more years and was also modified with adding the PGW EFRs then later the badger m5 bottoms towards the end of their run. I’ve heard rumors that certain individuals may have gotten some financial gain from the Ops cans being adopted to things being shutdown due to unauthorized modifications of the rifles being done for testing. I will say as iconic as the M40A5 rifle is with the surefire suppressor and is one of my favorites in my collection, the Ops A3 seems to shoot that much better. I would give it to the design of how the suppressor attaches to the gun. Threaded muzzle device and tapered shoulder for seating solid and concentric, just like many are already familiar with on the Mk12 rifles with AEM5 suppressors. Not to mention the sound is noticeably better to my ear.

Are you looking to build one of these?
