I need some advice on which fill to go with on a large game changer bag. This will be used primarily for hunting so I would like to go as light as I can without giving up stability.

I currently haul around my large GM w/ heavy fill and I just need to spend a little coin to save some weight.

Any advice? Is it so obvious to go as “lite” as possible?

Yeah, works great

I carry an MFC in cordura (wish it was waxed canvas) with polypropylene pellet fill (wish it was spexlite). I do have a spexlite filled, waxed canvas OG, but I don't really think I'd want to carry the extra bulk - it carries like it's twice as big as the MFC, and generally just isn't THAT much more versatile or more stable. But I'm relatively an oddball, I carry an MFC for my "90% bag" at PRS matches, and only break out my Schmedium for really specific use cases.

Dumb question here….MFC?

Thoughts on the shmedium size?

I have 2 OG's, a Schmedium, and a Pint Size, and more Wiebad Fortune Cookies in 4 different sizes. The OG's are bigger than I want for anything, and I personally don't really get along as well with the Schmedium as I do with the Pint Size or the MFC's (similar size to the Pint Size, smaller than Schmedium), but a lot of guys use Schmediums as their 90% solution bag for PRS matches. I shot a year with a Schmedium, 2 years with a Pint Size, and I think now 4 years with Mini Fortune Cookies as my 90% solution for PRS bags. I carry a Schmedium for big, flat obstacles (5 or 10% of match stages) and I do like carrying 2 bags for certain stages (5 or 10% of match stages).

For backcountry hunting, recognizing I will more likely be shooting from a tripod than a positional bag, I wouldn't want to commit to carrying the bulk, even at low weight, of an OG size. Schmedium would be the largest size I'd pack - and I DO pack a Mini Fortune Cookie.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I will take another look at the FCs. Always good to support someone local too.

Lot of varieties to how one hunts but even my pint sized with Git Lite fill is more than I want to bring on many hunts. Never carried anything bigger/heavier than that. I could justify carrying a heavier model for midwest whitetail hunting if i sought more stability but there's no reason for a sub 200 yd shots.

Good point. I use it interchangeably as a rear bag (when possible), hung over a tree branch, on a hood or bumper, etc. it’s nice to have more 7 y/o too.
