Ha, ha. Dumbfuck.

You could have listened to us, but Noooooo. We're just "a bunch of knuckle dragging Nazi, Lesbophobes"..........

Not at all. 84-87 (SOC) never touched it.
87-91 (SAC) Never touched it.

Once SAC changed to ACC during the McPeak years, we had to start playing silly reindeer games.
Sad times...
Left Ellsworth in 95 and went to Mtn Home and had to play even more. Same with the year at Kunsan

I went back to Ellsworth in 2000.
I can't recall putting it on between then and '04 when I retired. Good times.

Once past the Carter years and we started training, I spent more time in MOPP 4 than I care to remember. I did pull a year with a staff job in 7th AF in Korea. Anytime a phase II was on the books, I scheduled a SAV at another location.

God I loathed that asshat McPeak

I remember seeing his quote framed and hanging in maintenance shops, aerial ports, etc. all over the world. And was told there’s an engraved plaque of it hanging in every missile solo too.

Paraphrasing from memory:

“The Air Force is not necessarily a career opportunity for non-Fighter Pilots; or God forbid, those who don’t have wings at all”

That's pretty convenient. And genius.

He told academy seniors, “Too bad only 15 percent of you will see the real Air Force.” He worked on the obama election campaign. Pretty much confirmed what I always thought.

Meet him once. Came across as an entitled kid of a politician or very wealthy asshat?

He’s also that guy who screwed up all the stripes….

Yeah, but he eliminated name tags on our dress blues...🙄

Didn't he also eliminate buck sergeant?

Got rid of the bow tie for semi formal blues.

I did like the aircrew name patch. Got to know a lot more people's first name. 😄

It was also a lot of fun to swap tags around when people would hang their outer shirt on the coat rack. 👹

No wonder he was the "Fighter Pilot of Choice" in Ken Burns Vietnam series. Which was an utter travesty of a documentary. Though not surprising, since it was largely done by Burns Commie Assistant Lynn Novak. Anything she touches is leftist trash propaganda. He was the perfect Vietnam 'poster boy' to criticize the Air Force and their tactics/strategies (not that either were especially aimed at war winning.)

McPeak did have a hell of a flying career, though. Thunderbirds. Flew a lot of missions with Misty, which was a specialty interdiction unit. And one of the architects of the air war in 1991 in the Gulf. He did learn his lessons in VN and applied it with ruthless precision to the Air Campaign. To the point that Powell had to rein him in after the Road to Basra. He also was architect of the US Response had Saddam used chemical weapons or WMD... which would have been to take out the whole series of dams on the Tigris and Euphretes and put Baghdad under 6 feet of water. No nukes... but just as effective.

But he went on to be a really political a$$hat. Though I will give him credit, he predicted very well what the invasion of Iraq in 2003 would lead to. While Powell saluted and followed the Bush/Cheney line... and executed with a (albiet reluctant "Yes Sir), McPeak (Retired at this point) called it very accurately.

He also had a reputation for doing damn little for enlisted and non-pilots. Which was why I always had more respect, as an historian, for LeMay. Who made damn sure his aircrew and their families were taken care of right down to the family dog. LeMay was a real combat and peacetime leader. Despite what the lefty press say.
