For years my gunsmith has prepped barrels for me and I have installed them without any problems.

Needing a new barrel in a window that my gunsmith’s time line couldn’t meet, I purchased a nice prefit barrel. I installed it, the go gauge was perfect and the no-go closed a slight amount, may 1/4 the way and locked up solid, not much different than my other experiences. BTW this is a new action, not previously used.

Breaking in the barrel was normal as far as I could tell, chambering was fine, unlocking the action and ejecting the case was normal. Cleaning disclosed quite a bit of copper.

Measuring the fired cases, my comparator gave me a measurement of 1.245” consistently over the ten cartridges. My other action and barrel, gave me 1.243”.

Lots of variables here, barrels made by different companies, different reamers, and different gunsmiths. Are the slight variation in cases indicative of any issues or are they within the normal limits? Thanks for any insight.

Compare those measurements with measurements you get from the Go/No-go gauges(measured the same way).
