I am assembling a 7mm-08 rifle for hunting and some range play. Do not need or want a barricade stop. Ideally I want to be able to have a 3 or 4-round flush magazine for the woods but also be able to have 10-round mags for the range.

ARC likes AW mags but I haven’t been able to find anything other than a 10-round magazine. Am I missing something?

Two options I’ve found are the Hawkins Hunter DBM and the Greyboe Hunter. Both are M5 inlet and have non-tactical magazine releases. Greyboe says theirs accepts any AICS mags, 3, 5 or 10-round but a search here didn’t turn up anything on this bottom metal. Hawkins indicates theirs accepts AICS magazines but they also sell a proprietary 4-round, flush fit magazine for this DBM. Does anyone know if you can run both the proprietary 4-round and AICS mags without diddling with the magazine latch?

I just put one on my last rifle and can’t believe much difference it makes.
In what way?

Also, I just got off the phone with someone at Hawkins who cited all kinds of fitment issues with the CDG receiver. Surprises me because ARC recommends their bottom metal. 🤷 I did see a recent thread about problems feeding 7mm-08 specifically in their proprietary Hunter magazines.

If you don’t mind the barricade stop, I would absolutely recommend the MDT bottom metal instead, and I own both. The only reason is they have the adjustable mag latch, which is necessary to get optimal feeding for most (not all) rifles. I used it for a terminus build recently, knowing it was a 3 lug action and was able to easily adjust the latch to get the mag feeding smooth as silk.

BUT, as I said in my original post, the Hawkins has worked perfectly for me.

Oh! I did not catch the lack of an adjustable mag latch in the Hunter DBM. Very good to know.

Is yours a CDG receiver or something else?

M5 hunter DBMs
Hawkins hunter
Grayboe hunter
Mack bros
MDT hunter
APA RDG

I use the hawkins mag and aiaw mags with my CDG and Mack Bros bottom metal.

Aics mags need a shorter mag latch for me. I would try the flush MDT poly 3 round but my guess is they would need the shorter latch too.
