Steiner T6Xi 2.5-15x50 (5116) on Remington 700 Police

Good day gents,
I have a Steiner T6Xi 2.5-15X50 that I am mounting on an old Remington 700 Police .308 that was manufactured in 1993. My smith thinks I am nuts for putting it on that rifle but it shoots .5ish MOA with 168-175 grain. The rifle has custom paint from years ago, done well. Harris Bi-Pod, I had the bolt handle threaded with an updated knob. Timney elete hunter trigger and it has been reamed. Has a Mathews kydex cheek riser. Nice leather Turner sling. All around it's a solid platform. I value the rifle at around $1,500 in todays market. Hell, it owes me that much. I paid $800 for it years ago. Anyway, am I missing something? I think it worthy of a Steiner. Thoughts?

That is probably a 700 PSS, which were definitely a cut above the 700P.
It's very difficult to get any solid info on them now, most say that it and the 700P are virtually the same, they are not, but I can't give you any specifics.
The Remington heavy, hammer forged barrels were well noted for accuracy and a very long life.
You might need a new smith.

Reality is if it shoots good and you like it, then put whatever you like on it. It is a tool, it does not have to cost a certain amount to deserve the scope you want to put on it.

My smith is a good guy. I think he just does not understand investing into a .308 when options like 6.5 and so on are available now. He is not wrong but I have several .308 platforms and it is what I know. At some point I will branch out but as it stands I like what I have thousands of rounds downrange with to be what I grab if the need ever arises. Not sure he is a big Remington fan either. Oh well, it's getting this optic either way. Just double checking myself here. Thanks for the feedback. And all smiths and dealers are always looking to sell you something.
This is a 700 PSS. I called Remington years ago and they confirmed that and that it was manufactured in 1993. This one has the Remington detachable mag setup in the HS precision stock with the 40X trigger originally.

The good thing is you're the guy who'll be shooting the rifle, and you like the optic on the top.
It's not like the scope is permanently attached to the rifle, so you can move it later if you choose to change

I mean this rifle is far from high end but its not a Walmart Rem 770 or Ruger American either. LOL, oh well... If I feel the need to impress someone I can always pull the M40A5 with a SB on it out of the safe. I use this rifle to teach people who want to get into shooting at a little distance and I don't freak out if it gets beat around a little. Figured better glass would assist in that.

Who gives a fuck what your gunsmith thinks. Do what you want.

Its probably not the most optimal choice for a bolt gun. The 3-18 is more forgiving and will be easier to get behind. The 2-15 is more for AR's and short platforms. But there is no reason it won't work.
