Amp Mate

I bought an amp mate despite the very mixed reviews so I thought I’d put this out for people considering them.

I have about 500-600 rounds through mine and it is fantastic. I did struggle at first with the Redding shellholder they recommend but noticed it wasn’t very smooth and switched a Lee shellholder and it has been smooth sailing since.

I highly recommend the ampmate with the Lee shellholder.

Glad its working out well for you. I too have (had?) reservations about it as...well, it looks like some old Rube Goldberg thingy.

I've got an AMP Mark-2 and an AMP Press ... and contacted the guys at AMP for a "discount" to extend the family to the AMP Mate. Answer was a "No" with the explanation that it was a "break even" product for them and was already priced low enough that further discounts didn't make sense. OK ... I understand (sort of) ... but I've been a huge advocate for AMP products in the past, and thought I'd earned a few bucks off the AMP Mate MSRP. At full price, I don't have the volumes to "need" this gadget, but for a decent discount, I would have acquired one. All that said ... I absolutely LOVE my AMP and AMP Press, and couldn't imagine reloading without them. Amongst all the gadgets I own ... the AMP Press would be the last tool I'd vote off the island. The visibility and controls it gives me over my reloads is terrific, and I firmly believe that knowing your seating force ("really" knowing it) can help you tune virtually everything up-stream of bullet seating.

I’ve done lots of testing with 21 century force gauge arbor over shotmarker. I’m very confident seating force doesn’t show up on target or on chrono.

The amp mate is well worth the msrp I just drop brass in a tube and let it do all the work

I just ran 300. Dasher through mine and had maybe 10 failures, mostly brass falling out or whatever. Maybe I need to try a Lee shell holder. Sometimes it goes really smooth, other times not so much.
So I have to babysit it but get other things done while it runs so all in all it saves some time.

Mine struggled to insert brass all the way into the shellholder. I was ready to polish and hone my shellholder when I was using my primal rights one day with a Lee holder and thought wow this is so much smoother than that Redding one and now it’s perfect.

Redding has been trash quality for almost 10 years now. People keep recommending them based on their old rep. Those days are done. Some of the worst dies and shellholders I've ever seen are made by Redding. The t7 press is cool but I wouldn't spend a dime on anything they make. Someone else does it better and or cheaper.

I’ve used my ampmate for thousands and thousands of pieces of brass. It’s a great tool. There are videos of a guy pairing it with a Giraud. In really big cases like 338 lm and 300 PRC, it’s a bit finicky, but for most average sized cases it allows me to do another operation while it’s running.

f-class john. he had them custom-write software for that and it doesnt seem like anything cam of it. but im glad to know there are other people really happy with theit amp-mate

what is the purpose of annealing? I am a very experienced reloader, and I can get 10 firing out of my Lapua brass without issue (which is beyond the life span of my barrel and I throw the brass away before it's ruined). I have shot sd under 5 using brass with 6+ firings. I understand what the science behind the brass alignment and flow state that AMP achieves - but I do not understand how it would help my shooting?

I had played around with am annealeaz and still have one but I quit using it a long time ago when I started to read the AMP science they were publishing, since I believe the flam annealers can only do more harm than good.

sounds like the AMP is favored due to ease of set up, which is awesome. Sounds like there’s also conversation of the AMP performing a better anneal. I work at a moderately sized metallurgy shop. Our lab has micro hardness evaluation capabilities. If anyone wants to send a virgin pc of brass...
