Sounds a little like around here. My wife got an old engagement ring from one dead grandmother and the same thing went down. Fast forward to about two years ago and my son is getting married. I showed him two rings I had to fight for that were my other grandmothers, that is a story for when I am not on the phone. It had one large diamond and two smaller ones on the edge with a couple more itty bitty ones in there two.
The thing that shocked me is his wife had to have it sized up quite a bit, and she is about 100lbs, think college distance runner. I don't remember my grandma having that small of fingers but WOW it was tiny, only pic I have

My wife's is really flat and thin so it looks humongous. I said it was "princess cut", but that is a square (I just learned from googling). The issue is I don't know WTF I'm talking about. It is more of a cross between a pear shape and a trillion, but not so round, because so few facets.
The one below is a modern 6 carat which is about the same size if you look at it from the top. There is very little depth to it though. Not that it isn't a "big diamond", but it looks more than twice the size of what a modern one of the same weight looks like. It has flats on the sides where the one below is rounded, and has probably 1/4 as many facets. They just did it all by hand back then and didn't have the tech to cut them so many times. My guess is that so many facets give it more "fire".
But really, fuck diamonds. Spend as little on them as you can, because there are so many of them they're worth very little. They only have value because they occur in so few places, and in those places cartels control the supply. They are artificially expensive unlike rubies, emeralds, or sapphires which are actually rare.

Yea, well, except that today the labs can grow them in sizes and quality that once would literally have ransomed royalty.
If you have a safety deposit box..get rid of it. The laws changed a while ago, they aren’t for your eyes only anymore.

Decades ago I gave a run to a lady with her birth stone and side diamonds.
I got it from a family friend who is a jeweler and 500 miles away.
I knew it would be too big and she could get it resized.
Well she took it to a place to get it resized and appraised.
They resized it and said the diamonds were fake.
Long story short, they overheated the ring and burned the small side diamonds.
Fake - nope
Burned - yes.
Besides the obvious..once your spine “grows” crooked it stays that way unless there’s surgery.
Scoliosis ends approx 24 months after girls first period..that’s when the usually stop growing. Boys can grow until approx 21 on some cases.

So very true, and with the nature of this forum I would be more then a few of us have sonic cleaners. This is all they will do.
That said, the "tongs" that hold the diamonds in place can wear and you can loose the stone. If this looks like a repair you are going to need, do some research and find a good place to take it to. Generally it is an inexpensive repair.
One last thing, if you think diamonds have great value, try to sell one. They are not that special but the product of 100 years of Debeers marketing.....as well as a monopoly. They own the worlds supply, have a great many politicians in their back pockets like most wealthy companies do. This is why the push to stop "conflict" diamonds. It is not what they tell you, but flooding the market would bring that house of cards down and down hard.
And you are going to hear some names talked about on this forum quite a bit, Rothschild for one.

Scoliosis can start at any time. It can be corrected somewhat with upper cervical chiropractic. That and good body work can reduce it, but never even close to zero.

It’s primarily when your spine growing especially when young. As you get older you may twist but it’s not from bone growth which is the primary issue. Especially if young twist enough for rib / lung contact.

I bought my wife's ring from an estate sale on Ebay. Paid $200 for it. Got it appraised before I gave it to her just to make sure it was real. Diamond alone was worth $7000 at the time. I wasn't even trying to cheap out. She likes older style cuts that people don't do anymore.
