Good thing for crimped primers! I recall when Dam Neck, etc was getting that new 300 wm round years ago, the Navy put out that one should not shoot it unless your chamber was cut for that round otherwise things might get dicey--this was for folks following the tuna trucks for shit that "fell off" At the very least, I wouldn't be using the spent brass or at least inspect it thoroughly.

They tried turning 300WM into .338 LM, and came pretty close. Throats didn’t last, according to Federal, who was making and testing at least some of the ammo for that contract.
Everybody else was using .338LM in NATO, but the Navy sabotaged that path that the rest of SOCOM thought they were on. They ended up with a multi-caliber .308/300NM/338 Norma Mag in the end anyway with PSR, though I haven’t kept close tabs on it because of how convoluted it got.
Remington got the PSR contract and SOCOM canceled it.
The next great leap was the Barrett MK22. The Army once again is exercising USSOCOM's government's contract option and adopted the multi-caliber Barrett to replace the Remington 2010.
USASOC benefits because the Army now buys their service-common sniper rifles (instead of having to spend SOCOM dollars).
