It is an air rifle. Look at this screen shot. No bolt on the right side and it's a European design because of the drop in the cheekpiece. Also look at the lower corner of the buttstock.
I've seen that design before but can't remember the manufacturer. I think the maker used it to indicate it was a gas piston instead of a spring piston.
I'll probably remember it about 2:00 AM when I'm asleep then will have to get up an post it.
The barrel is too thin to be a centerfire or even a .22LR. Where the barrel meets the stock you can see the hinge for the cocking lever.
I shoe horses and I wouldn't touch those, well maybe with hot iron using a long set of tongs.
