Factory load particularly for a 26” .223 Shilen bull barrel, 7 twist?

No one has shot your barrel so they can’t tell you what works for it. You can have two of the exact same barrel and they may like different things. It’s a 7 twist .223 so will shoot the heavy bullets for long range so just buy some and try it. For shorter range anything will work as far as weight.

How far you plan to shoot it?

500 yards. Shooting at 3 and 4” gongs.

Try some of that Hornady Black 75 BTHP. The Black line is geared towards ARs but it shoots good in bolt guns too. It’s also down in that price range if you wanted to keep it at under $20 a box.

If over that price is ok and you want some speed then try the Superformance 75s.

I suppose everyone could improve on their fundamentals, don’t you think? Funny you should ask about my ability to tie my shoes. Matter of fact, I have a damaged left hand that makes that rather awkward.

The federal gold medal match would be a worthy test as well. Just something that’s not the cheapest 55gr range fodder, probably like you found with your factory barrel… only now you can go heavier in your bullet selection.
Thanks, I’m sure I’ll give those a try. I really can’t remember the last time I shot a 55 gr bullet.

Rebarreled a Savage 110 action with the subject barrel, interested if anyone has a recommendation for a factory load, through experience, with this particular barrel. Thanks.

Wow! Single digit SD with a factory load. MOST unusual!
